Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

  • Support and contribute towards the execution of an annual business plan for the European Liability and Environmental division and ensure its delivery in accordance with Company stated risk tolerances.
  • Contribute and participate in international meetings with other GRS Risk Engineering Teams and Emerging Risk Committees in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
  • Support and contribute towards new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan.
  • Provide technical support to the European Casualty team. This role performs the planning, organizing, analysis and evaluation of risks, regardless of complexity, mainly on a desk review basis and less onsite risk engineering surveys to provide risk assessments to enable Underwriters to make accurate and profitable underwriting decisions; technical support to develop new business initiatives.

Delivery

  • Plan, organize and perform desk-based risk appraisals for general liability to provide risk analysis information to Underwriters throughout LMIE branches. The risk appraisal process includes preparation of a plant/process/product description, assessment of plant/process/product design, hazards and adequacy of mitigation measures, assessment of management systems/procedures and plant protection facilities, and loss estimate calculations. In addition, for casualty public liability, environmental liability, products liability and recall.
  • Conduct on-site risk engineering surveys for existing and prospective clients, as required by underwriters. Utilise online survey systems and offline templates to produce summaries and detailed risk engineering survey reports for Underwriters, Brokers, or the Client as required. The role will be hybrid (home based with alignment to one of our offices with traveling where necessary (predominantly within continental Europe; D, NL, B, F, E, I, CH, D, A) to meet Liberty insureds.
  • Provide ad hoc technical analysis comprehensive documentations on emerging risks or other technical topics (whether asked by the UWs or proactively)
  • Provide technical input to assist in the development of new products and new business initiatives.
  • Maintain professional credibility and consistently demonstrate technical expertise and sound judgment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the assigned lines of business(s) including process technology, loss prevention, construction and other related issues that may impact the underwriting decision-making process and improve LMIE profitability. The job holder is expected to actively pursue professional development in order to develop and maintain knowledge in these areas.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of risk engineering proposition for policyholders. This to include developing materials for Liberty Risk Reduce, updating of Guidance Documents and working with teams to develop new format materials to benefit both Liberty clients and Underwriters e.g. video and eLearning materials.
  • Monitor progress with risk improvements.
  • Technical presentations to assist in internal and external seminars and trainings.

  • Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology in order to minimise risks.

Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in Casualty Risk Engineering with a focus on mechanical, automotive supply, renewable energy, incl. IT and chemical exposures (ability to adapt and analyse other industries not necessarily in the scope of main expertise)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Control, Materials Engineer
  • Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Thorough understanding of class specific knowledge especially Liability and Environment
  • Intermediate/ advanced level understanding of relevant software including Excel and other departmental software packages
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong autonomy, organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to analyse and use data for decision making
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proactivity and adaptability
  • Fluent in English language along with local language
