Job Summary
B&A is looking for a Database Administrator to join a contract with a federal government client in support of an important mission. We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize our organization’s database systems. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, and integrity across multiple environments. This role involves database design, installation, configuration, backup/recovery, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support of both development and production systems.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database software (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other RDBMS).
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune queries for optimal efficiency.
- Implement and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy standards.
- Implement role-based access controls, authentication, and encryption where applicable.
- Conduct regular audits to maintain database security and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with developers and system architects to design logical and physical database structures.
- Create and maintain database schemas, stored procedures, triggers, and scripts.
- Provide support for application development teams with SQL tuning and query optimization.
- Proactively monitor database health and performance using industry-standard tools.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related incidents, outages, and performance issues.
- Provide on-call support for production databases as required.
- Maintain documentation on database configurations, processes, and standards.
- Research and recommend new database technologies, tools, and best practices.
- Automate routine database tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5 years of experience with Oracle, SQL Server, DB2
Required Skills:
- Hands-on RDBMS experience
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification
- Proficiency with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with backup/recovery, clustering, replication, and high availability solutions.
- Familiarity with Windows, Linux, or Unix operating systems.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance (if required by contract/agency).
Desired Skills:
- Experience with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
- Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments.

- Active Secret clearance.
