Job Summary:
B&A is looking for a Database Management Specialist to join a contract with a federal government client in support of an important mission. We are seeking a skilled Database Management Specialist to support the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of enterprise database systems. This role involves managing relational databases, ensuring data integrity and availability, optimizing performance, and supporting business-critical applications. The Database Management Specialist will work closely with system administrators, developers, and business users to ensure database solutions meet organizational needs and comply with security and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain database structures
- Backup and recovery procedures
- Evaluate DBMS products.
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or equivalent).
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement tuning solutions.
- Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations across environments.
- Implement and manage database clustering, replication, and high-availability solutions.
- Ensure databases comply with information security and cybersecurity policies.
- Manage user access, authentication, and role-based privileges.
- Conduct regular audits and enforce data protection and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain database backup and recovery procedures.
- Conduct disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure data continuity.
- Maintain database integrity, consistency, and reliability.
- Support developers in creating queries, stored procedures, and database scripts
- Optimize queries and troubleshoot application-database interactions.
- Maintain database dictionaries, schema documentation, and metadata standards.
- Proactively monitor database capacity and performance trends.
- Recommend enhancements for efficiency, automation, and scalability.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and best practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent work experience).
- 5 years of relevant experience
Required Skills:
- Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, or T-SQL.
- Experience in backup/recovery, performance tuning, and database monitoring tools.
- Strong knowledge of data security practices and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with Windows, Linux, or Unix operating systems.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance (if required by contract/agency).
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
