Job Summary


B&A is looking for a Software Systems Engineer to join a contract with a federal government client in support of an important mission. We are seeking a highly skilled Software Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and maintain complex software systems that support enterprise applications and mission-critical operations. The Software Systems Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, design system solutions, and implement robust, scalable, and secure software systems. This role requires strong problem-solving abilities, technical expertise, and experience in both software development and systems engineering disciplines. 


Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain complex software systems
  • Operating system maintenance and software evaluation
  • Design, develop, and implement software solutions in alignment with system requirements and business needs.
  • Integrate software components into larger systems, ensuring seamless interoperability.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Analyze complex system requirements and translate them into software specifications.
  • Ensure compatibility and scalability of software within multi-platform and distributed environments.
  • Perform system modeling, simulation, and analysis to validate solutions.
  • Develop and execute test plans for system integration and performance validation.
  • Identify and resolve software defects, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and standards.
  • Conduct peer reviews of design and code to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Provide troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for system and software issues.
  • Develop automated scripts and tools to streamline monitoring, deployment, and maintenance tasks.
  • Implement updates, patches, and system enhancements as required.
  • Apply cybersecurity principles and practices to ensure system and software security.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable security, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with software developers, system administrators, network engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including system designs, architecture diagrams, and user guides.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development and/or systems engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, C#, or Python.
  • Experience with systems integration, middleware, APIs, and web services.
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix) and networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools (Git, SVN, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret clearance (if required by contract/agency).

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Understanding of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and practices.
  • Experience with real-time, embedded, or mission-critical systems.

Security Clearance

  • Active secret clearance.
