Freedom Technology Solutions Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Architect with extensive experience designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-grade Linux environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AWS cloud services, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and a thorough technical understanding of both hardware and software systems. This role requires someone who can work independently or as part of a collaborative engineering team, proactively analyze system logs to identify root causes, and architect secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and deploy Linux-based infrastructure solutions across on-premises and AWS environments.
- Lead cloud modernization efforts, including migration, automation, performance optimization, and security hardening.
- Collaborate with existing project teams to:
- Understand and document the existing geospatial data, metadata, workflows, and code.
- Understand and document the requirements for data management and security.
- Understand and document the existing IT infrastructure.
- Establish short-term recommendations for improved data throughput and integrity, and work with the team to implement these changes.
- Develop, define and document system and application architecture that optimizes the system for better data throughput, cost, operational insight, development environments, system support, and system administration. Propose a strategy to move from existing systems to optimized systems and workflows, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. These recommendations shall include:
- IT infrastructure to support data processing system
- GIS environment and business intelligence
- Processing and storage environments for data to be processed and displayed using geospatial web services.
- Operations & Maintenance and Development:
- Lead the implementation, and maintenance of medium to large-scale government data warehouses and digital archive management systems.
- Develop and implement solutions adhering to Agency (desired) facility, compute, storage, and network policies and strategies.
- Implement and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for government systems to interconnect.
- Monitor and report on metrics, performance, system health, and status of large-scale storage and processing systems.
- Help Desk:
- Provide escalation expert support for users in medium to large-scale data centers. Manage and resolve tiered problem resolution and user response.
- Data Standards and Technologies:
- Demonstrate expertise in geospatial data standards including NITF (2.0 & higher), JPEG, GeoTIFF, Digital Rast Graphics, Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED), and Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM).
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and applications.
- Experience with MPEG and MPEG-TS formats.
- Skilled in HTML and HTML5 development.
- Familiarity with various geospatial data feeds (specific feeds redacted).
- Software and Hardware Management:
- Extensive experience with Apache Web Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, OMAR, and OSSIM software.
- Proficiency in RedHat Linux and Microsoft Windows Server administration, including FreeIPA management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, SharePoint) and Microsoft Internet Information Services.
- Expertise in OGC Web Services (WMS, WFS, WCS).
- Experience with Google Earth Client and Electronic Light Table applications (e.g., Remote View, SOCETGxP).
- Deploy and maintain Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions.
- Install, deploy, and maintain firewalls, switches, and routers.
- System Administration and Security:
- Manage storage maintenance and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues effectively.
- Develop scripts using WSH, LINUX shell, and other scripting languages.
- Administer and manage audit logs for security and compliance.
- Maintain and enhance security systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in geospatial solutions architecture or a similar role
- Strong understanding of government data management practices and security protocols.
- TS/SCI ++ cleared
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), AWS Certified Solution Architect, Esri Enterprise System Design Certification).
- Experience in the IC
- Advanced troubleshooting skills, including log analysis, performance tuning, and root cause identification.
- Strong understanding of hardware components, virtualization, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN), and storage technologies.
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools.
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
