Legal Assistant - Civil Litigation bei Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC

Howard & Howard is currently seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our Chicago, IL office. This full-time position offers a dynamic opportunity to support attorneys and paralegals across all phases of civil litigation, with a focus on consumer lending and bankruptcy matters.

We’re looking for a candidate who brings professionalism, discretion, and strong organizational skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across all levels of the firm. A commitment to accuracy, multitasking, and confidentiality is essential. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support, including:

• Managing attorney calendars, dockets, and appointments
• Coordinating frequent and complex travel arrangements
• Handling electronic court filings in both state and federal jurisdictions
• Screening and responding to client communications
• Drafting and preparing emails, reports, and confidential documents
• Maintaining client files in NetDocs and physical formats
• Managing workflow systems such as Vendorscape
• Completing attorney time entry and billing processes
• Providing backup support to fellow legal assistants
• Performing additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Competencies:

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Professional demeanor in all client and colleague interactions (in-person, phone, video)
• Proficiency in state and federal e-filing procedures and trial preparation
• Ability to manage high-volume workloads with accuracy
• Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
