Job Summary:

Responsible for the coordination and assessment of professional development programs facilitated by the Faculty Development Center (FDC) and the Office of Writing Programs (OWP) team. These programs include single-session and ongoing workshop series, teaching and pedagogical support teams, and professional growth initiatives for faculty and academic staff that align with Furman's strategic vision. The successful candidate has and continues to build adaptive skills that include responsibility for the daily operations of both offices, specialized event planning, communication, and efficient, effective administrative, analytical, program support. The most successful candidates for this position thrive in a collegial unit in which constructive feedback for improvement and celebrating successes are the norm.

Job Description:

Responsibilities

The FDC and OWP support faculty and academic staff professional development across campus and in the broader academic community. The Faculty Development Center Programs Coordinator advances this expanding mission across FDC, OWP, and other faculty programs.

Over the past seven years, program participation has grown steadily. As of Fall 2025, we reach more than 72% of full-time instructional faculty and a range of full-time academic staff. This growth and ongoing campus demand require dedicated support from a professional with adaptive skills in event planning, communication, program management, and analytical support for evidence-based pedagogical effectiveness, The Furman Advantage, and the Furman Focused strategic plan.

Program Coordination & Event Management (45%)

Coordinate existing and emerging programs and events throughout the process including planning, registration, physical and virtual set-up, and post-event communication and assessment. These duties include:

  • Collecting data during program brainstorming with the FDC team to generate programs and events; cross-referencing proposed events with university schedule to ensure alignment

  • Designing automated registration and reminder processes

  • Designing accurate and visually effective print and digital presentation materials (e.g., a semester program flyer, accessible digital signage advertising programming, etc.)

  • Placing catering, technology, and room/location reservations

  • Assisting with event set-up and post-event activities

  • Just in time problem-solving to support an optimal learning environment for participants

  • Coordinating faculty peer coaching and students as pedagogical partners programs

  • Coordinating hybrid participation in events including monitoring Zoom, engaging remote participants in the chat, and uploading relevant digital materials in real time

  • Coordinating accurate captioning and uploading of Learning by Design support videos developed in-house

  • Ensuring all FDC/OWP professional development support materials are ADA compliant and meet accessibility resource guidelines

  • Coordinating logistics related to hosting regional or national conferences at Furman

Budgetary and Administrative Support (15%)

Coordinate budgetary and administrative support needs for the FDC/OWP.  Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate budgetary records in Workday

  • Completing expense report preparation, purchasing card reconciliation, and travel-related reporting and expenses for the team

  • Administrating FDC internal grant awards, including frequent email or phone communication with faculty members who have been granted awards or stipends, drafting award letters, and requesting post-project reports

  • Communicating frequently with other university colleagues when processing purchases, generating invoices, and scheduling meetings, workshops, or events
  • Communicating with vendors to place, follow up on, or solve issues related to purchases

  • Assisting in the development of meeting agendas and in the recording and dissemination of meeting minutes as necessary

  • Maintaining up-to-date donor records and organizing thank you communication campaigns

Program and Unit Assessments (15%)

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date event records, including number of attendees, expenses, and documentation of the planning process on collaborative interfaces (Box, for example)

  • Building and administering programmatic feedback surveys in Qualtrics

  • Collecting program participation data and providing initial analysis in a timely manner

  • Organizing qualitative and quantitative data to draft an annual report of programmatic impact and in support of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)

  • Preparing twice yearly reports on the FDC and OWP activities for the FDC Brain Trust advisory board

Promotion and Communications (15%)

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating preparation of initial drafts, proofreading final drafts, and distributing monthly newsletters and ongoing weekly communications in MailPoet or Outlook

  • Maintaining FDC/OWP/AI support web pages and the Integrated Professional Development Calendar

  • Generating dynamic content for social media presences (Instagram, YouTube, etc.)

  • Ensuring Box repositories of resources up-to-date and accessible

  • Archiving weekly communications in an easily searchable online archive

  • Creating promotional materials for distribution to faculty, academic staff, and other stakeholders that maintain appropriate branding standards

  • Assisting in the compilation of reflections, stories, and photos from FDC/OWP by University Communication for use in promotional materials and news stories

FDC Growth Support and Professional Development (10%)

Supporting the FDC's growth and student employee onboarding and management, including:

  • Performing initial recruitment communication with potential student employees, including in the developing Students as Pedagogical Partners program

  • Onboarding new employees and/or student workers in their duties in support of FDC/OWP programs including:

  • Event/program preparation of materials

  • Social media content creation

  • Ensuring accessibility standards are met in print, digital, and video resources

  • Leading skills building workshops for peers and/or student employees as necessary

  • Assisting in grant writing, including budget preparation for applications, budget administration for successful grant awards, coordination of extramural grant data collection, and initial formatting of final report graphics and data

  • Engaging individual professional development opportunities in alignment with the FDC mission and program priorities.

Performing other duties as assigned

Relationships

Regular contact and close collaboration with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development, the Director of Writing Programs, and the Associate Director of the Faculty Development Center.

Frequent contact with faculty, students, academic departments, and campus partners (Center for Engaged Learning, Malone Center for Career Engagement, the Center for Inclusive Communities, the Office of University Communications, the Office of Development, etc.) to maintain cooperative relationships, exchange information, and coordinate related programming.

Responsibility for Final Decisions

Responsible for own work. May assist or instruct others doing similar work.

Tasks involve interpretation of data and/or procedures to address problems or situations that are not clearly defined. Work involves non-routine/diverse work not defined by processes.

Executive Director of the FDC/Associate Dean for Faculty Development

Education/Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 1–2 years of experience in related field

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, especially in written communication

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to professionally represent Furman University to faculty, staff, administrators, students, and stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and scheduling in the academic setting

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects

  • Ability to maintain data, prepare reports, and provide information accurately, completely and in a timely manner

  • Experience with Microsoft office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; some experience in website and survey software (i.e., Wordpress and Qualtrics), Box, and Adobe tools

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues with differing work patterns and approaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning and execution

  • Experience leading social media campaigns in multiple platforms; experience generating social media content using Canva

  • Experience in project management and/or coordinating several complex projects with multiple stakeholders simultaneously

  • Experience working in higher education

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to navigate challenges with a solutions-focused approach
