Join MAPEI Corporation, a global leader in manufacturing construction chemicals and building materials — including adhesives, sealants, and specialty products used in flooring, tile, and concrete restoration.  We are currently seeking a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead our EHS strategy across MAPEI Corporation. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to drive regulatory compliance, safety culture, and sustainability excellence within a global chemical manufacturing organization. The Director will partner with senior leadership, site leaders, and regulatory agencies to build a best-in-class EHS framework that supports operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Compliance
  • Establish and execute the EHS strategic roadmap for manufacturing operations across the organization in partnership with the Director of Operations N.A.
  • Serve as the principal liaison with regulatory bodies (OSHA, EPA, DHS, and state agencies), ensuring compliance and proactive engagement.
  • Provide executive-level guidance on emerging regulatory trends, risk mitigation strategies, and operational impacts in an industrial environment.

Program Development & Risk Management

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems in collaboration with QEHS.
  • Direct corporate regulatory audits, incident investigations, and corrective action programs to minimize risk exposure.
  • Oversee reporting, documentation, and analysis of EHS metrics to ensure accountability and improvement across all sites.

Operational Excellence & Culture Building

  • Drive measurable performance through KPIs and standardized reporting.
  • Champion a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory excellence throughout the organization.
  • Lead enterprise-wide training and competency programs focused on EHS awareness, leadership, and compliance.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, Finance, R&D, Technical Service, Purchasing, and QEHS teams to embed EHS considerations into projects, capital planning, and process improvements.
  • Support product, process, and facility expansions by conducting EHS risk assessments and ensuring compliance throughout project planning.
  • Partner with Corporate and Global leadership to align regional EHS priorities with global standards and initiatives.

Leadership & Influence

  • Build and develop a high-performing EHS team focused on engagement, talent development, and site-level execution.
  • Act as a visible and influential leader, promoting EHS as a core business value across the function.
  • Advance EHS performance through benchmarking, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all MAPEI policies, safety rules, and work procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • In this role you will earn a competitive annual salary between $135,000 - $175,000  based on your experience and qualifications. 
  • This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is a variable percentage of your base salary, based on individual performance and company results.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience, including at least 5 years in chemical manufacturing at the Director or Senior Manager level.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international EHS regulatory frameworks (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and state agencies).
  • Professional certifications strongly preferred: CSP, CIH, REM, or CET.
  • Proven success leading multi-site EHS programs in complex manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and change management skills.
  • Experience with ISO 14001/45001 management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint); AS400 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% to company sites.
