About the Role:
As an Assistant Underwriter at Ventus, you will play a vital support role in evaluating, processing, and servicing insurance submissions. You will work closely with underwriters, brokers, and other stakeholders to help manage the underwriting workflow, gather necessary information, and assist in quoting and binding business. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist underwriters in reviewing and processing commercial property submissions, including gathering and verifying required documentation.
- Input and maintain accurate data in underwriting and policy management systems.
- Prepare quotes, binders, endorsements, and policy documents under the direction of the underwriter.
- Communicate with brokers and agents to obtain missing information and clarify underwriting questions.
- Track submission statuses and follow up on outstanding items to ensure timely processing.
- Assist with compliance checks and internal audit requests.
- Maintain organized digital records in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support underwriting team with ad hoc tasks, reports, or projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 1–2 years of experience in commercial insurance or underwriting support role preferred (experience with MGAs is a plus).
- Familiarity with commercial property insurance products and terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook); experience with underwriting systems (e.g., AIM, ImageRight, or similar) preferred.
- Progress toward insurance designations such as AINS, AU, or CPCU.
- Experience working in an MGA or E&S (Excess & Surplus) lines environment.
