What will a Distribution Center and Transportation Assistant Manager do?

Through words and actions support Chattanooga Goodwill’s Mission, Vision, and Values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
· Maintain agency, employee, and participants confidentiality. Violation of confidentiality may be cause for termination.
· Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external partners, maintaining timely and consistent communication with team members and leadership.
· Assisting the DC and Transportation Manager in overseeing the distribution center and transportation team, ensuring safe and efficient movement of donated goods and salvage from ADCs and stores.
· Ensure all equipment is safe to use and that staff operate it properly and responsibly.
· Accurately process payroll for department staff.
· Achieve budgeted goals and maintain expenditures in accordance with the departmental expectations.
· Hire, train, supervise, and support staff to meet Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga Area’s and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and operational standards.
· Schedule regular maintenance and DOT inspections for box trucks, tractors and trailers.
· Operate the baling machine safely and bale textiles as needed.
· Safely operate the Tipper according to training guidelines.
· Coordinate product movement between all Goodwill locations in the most efficient way possible.
· Prepare daily dispatch schedules for trucks and trailers.
· Operate forklifts and ensure all staff are properly certified.
· Assist with loading and unloading trucks and trailers.
· Maintain the appearance of the fleet to meet Organization standards.
· Participate and support conducting monthly Safety meetings with distribution center and transportation staff.
· Keep accurate and timely records and reports.
· Attend required meetings and training sessions.
· Follow all safety policies and procedures, attend safety meetings, and report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries immediately.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Key knowledge and experience
-
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or completion of management coursework preferred.
· 1-3 years of experience in a relevant supervisory role in warehousing, distribution center operations, and transportation preferred.
· Ability to complete and maintain:
o Forklift certification
o CPR and First Aid certifications
· Thorough understanding of DOT, OSHA, TOSHA, NHTSA regulations and local codes.
· Familiarity with FMCSA rules on safe driving, hours of service, inspections, and equipment maintenance.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
· Training experience is a plus.
· High level of attention to detail.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
· Must be able to adapt to growth and a changing environment within the Agency.
· Good interpersonal skills: able to work well with a wide range of people to promote teamwork while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Dependable, conscientious, and safety focused.
· Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrate adherence to timelines and schedules.
· Knowledge of company policies, safety protocols, and loss prevention procedures.
· Able to work independently without constant supervision.
· Physically capable of pushing/pulling loads over 50 pounds.
· Must be at least 21 years of age with Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
· Must pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check and maintain a good driving record.
· Must be available to work during operating business hours as needed for business operations. Work schedule includes days, evenings, holidays, and weekends are required.
