Help people turn disputes into resolutions, join our team as a Small Claims Advisor and make a real legal impact!


The Spanish bilingual small claims advisor will assist the small claims attorney in the preparation of small claims pleadings. This full-time non-exempt position reports to the Supervising Attorney.   


Responsibilities:

  • Provide general and procedural information to Small Claims litigants.
  • Assist attorneys and litigants with completing Small Claims Court forms 
  • Maintain detailed and accurate notes and timekeeping in case management system (Legal Server).
  • Assist attorney with Small Claims Workshop appointments and in weekly Small Claims workshops.
  • Maintain and prepare statistical Small Claims reports.
  • Perform data entry and navigate Internet websites including but not limited to Orange County Superior Court, Orange County Clerk Recorder, California Secretary of State, etc. 
  • Effectively and efficiently communicate with Small Claims Litigants including accurately relaying information provided by the attorney. 
  • Assist attorneys with research of business and public entity information.
  • Perform various clerical duties such as record-keeping, document copying, e-Filing, etc.
  • Observe confidentiality and neutrality of Small Claims Litigants. 
  • Maintain calendar and deadline reminder systems as needed. 
  • When qualified, engage in interpretation and translation for attorneys.
  • Work with community groups, conduct outreach, and provide community education presentations and materials.
  • Work with a multi-cultural perspective.
  • Work with and mentor paralegal and law students, interns, and volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.

Requirements


Education:

  • Paralegal certificate, paralegal degree or 
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of law-related experience. 

Qualifications:

  • Spanish Bilingual proficiency – Required. 
  • One-year experience in a receptionist/clerical/call center position - Preferred
  • Basic knowledge of the Small Claims Act, Small Claims procedures, and a general understanding of civil substantive legal matters.
  • Basic knowledge of enforcement of civil judgment laws and procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, active insurance policy and ability to travel frequently in and around the service area. 
  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and organize work to ensure maximum service to litigants.
  • Ability to handle difficult litigants and stressful situations.
  • Strong technical skills; including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and listening skills.
  • Self-Motivated, ability to learn quickly, initiative to problem-solve.
  • Great organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, meet strict deadlines, results-oriented environment.
  • Desire to learn as well as share knowledge with other team members.
  • Empathetic and energetic attitude while working with others.
  • Ability to interact with multi-cultural individuals.
