TrueNorth is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our Legal Team in Cedar Rapids! The Corporate Counsel provides legal counsel to the company and its affiliates, supports internal stakeholders through training and education, and performs a variety of legal work such as contracting, regulatory matters, privacy and data security, dispute resolution, litigation management, and professional liability. The Corporate Counsel operates as a generalist, serving and assisting in multiple subject matter areas with the goal of future development into one or more specialty practices, for long-term growth.

Essential Job Functions:
- Provide legal counsel to clients by analyzing complex information and applying sound legal judgment.
- Perform a broad range of in-house legal functions independently, including legal research, writing, and document review and drafting.
- Collaborate with internal departments to advise on subjects such as HR, Privacy, and Security.
- Provide support to company’s clients and market partners.
- Deliver education and training to internal clients, helping them understand legal concepts, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Support and advise leadership teams on legal issues, contribute to strategic decision-making across the organization.
- Communicate clearly with clients, translating complex legal issues into understandable terms and escalating matters when necessary.
- Deliver high-quality, detail-oriented work while maintaining confidentiality with clients, carriers, producers, and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to a positive client experience through responsiveness, professionalism, and proactive legal support.
- Assist in managing professional liability claims and help ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation across the business.
- Stay current with legal developments and complete all required continuing education to maintain licensure and industry knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Credentials:
- 2-4 years of professional experience as a practicing attorney required
- J.D. and active license to practice law in the state of residence, with good standing maintained.
- Experience working in a law firm preferred
- Familiarity with insurance helpful
- Interest and willingness to utilize AI in the practice of law preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic PowerPoint functions
