New Business Development Manager – Core Business
The purpose of this role is to identify, evaluate, and secure new growth opportunities for Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas. The role will focus on expanding the company's customer base, growing top-line revenues, developing strategic partnerships, and exploring/deploying innovative energy solutions to meet customers' evolving needs. This position will oversee and manage a geographically dispersed team responsible for onboarding new customers across the following segments: single-family, multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial. Additionally, this position will oversee and manage existing customers by adding incremental load to the distribution system or modifying existing infrastructure on customer property in the most optimal manner possible. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-driven professional with industry knowledge and the ability to build and maintain relationships across all stakeholder groups to drive sustained long-term growth.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
Business Execution
- Develop and implement comprehensive new business development plans aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities to expand market presence and drive revenue growth.
- Oversee the pipeline of new business projects from initial contact, through contract execution, and project completion.
- Oversee and manage customer onboarding to ensure customers receive service in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Partner with internal teams – engineering, system planning, land services, construction operations, project support, fields operations, legal, and other key stakeholders on constructability timelines of new projects and revisions generated by the customer.
- Establish and monitor goals that are consistent with the department’s and company’s overall strategy.
- Drive results through performance management of team including setting expectations, evaluating results and taking corrective action as needed.
- Balance external stakeholders (customers, regulatory agencies, permitting jurisdiction, etc.) needs with company goals and objectives to reach a favorable resolution to stakeholder issues and/or concerns.
- Prepare, monitor, and execute on departmental O&M and Capital budgets.
- Provide variance explanations for O&M and Capital budgets and develop appropriate strategic, corrective actions.
- Analyze and interpret key performance indicators.
- Present departmental performance and report on the progression of major projects to leadership and key stakeholders.

- Understand and monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and technological advancements to identify new growth opportunities and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement to be more efficient and effective.

- Advocate for the use of natural gas as a clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy source within the evolving energy landscape.
- Foster and facilitate clear, consistent, and effective information flow both internally and externally.
- Convey complex ideas and challenges in a clear and concise manner

- Manage staff selection and performance development through coaching and training opportunities.
- Mentor and guide growth and retention team as needed.
Relationships & Networking
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent the company in relevant industry forums, conferences, and business development initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Four-year degree in business, engineering, economics, energy management or related field or 7+ years of gas utility experience
Preferred:
- MBA or an advanced degree
Related Work Experience:
Required:
- BA/BS degree and 3+ years of gas utility experience or 7+ years of gas utility experience
Preferred:
- Past experience in business development, sales and marketing, and or leadership in the energy and utility industry
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, capable of influencing at all levels of the organization
- Strong understanding of the natural gas industry, including regulatory environment, market dynamics, and operational considerations
Preferred:
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems
- Experience with Asset & Resource Management (ARM) work management system
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- The incumbent works in an office environment with occasional trips to the field.
- This position occasionally requires walking of construction sites and could require the individual to bend, kneel, or crouch from time to time.
