HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
As a Graphic Designer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). In this role, you’ll take ownership of our brand identity and product experiences, driving key initiatives such as supporting internal stakeholders and elevating visual communications across the organization. The consistent brand identity and clear visual storytelling you provide will help USGBC stand out and solidify its reputation as an authority in the green building space.
You’ll report to the Art Director and be part of a collaborative global marketing team environment where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes. As a member of the design team you will be responsible for driving the visual strategy and brand identity for a global organization with a product presence in over 175 countries worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Create engaging digital designs: Develop high-impact visual assets for web, social media, email, and other digital channels. Ensure designs are optimized for various platforms and screen sizes.
- Environmental design and event support: Ability to apply branding and design concepts across various environmental touchpoints, creating cohesive event experiences.
- Develop logo designs and provide brand strategy: Understand how to conduct research, analyze a brand's landscape, and distill a company's core essence into a cohesive visual language. Develop logo designs that are memorable, scalable, and instantly recognizable, and ensure our brands can build lasting equity.
- Support social media content: Design on-brand social media graphics, videos, and other visual elements. Collaborate with the communications team to create content that resonates with the target audience.
- Design internal presentation templates: Craft visually appealing and consistent presentation templates for use across the organization. Ensure templates adhere to brand guidelines and promote clear, professional communication.
- Layout reports and publications: Design the layout and formatting for reports, white papers, case studies, and other multi-page documents. Incorporate effective data visualization techniques and maintain brand integrity.
- Research design trends and collaborate: Stay up-to-date on current design trends and best practices. Work cross-functionally with product, membership, events and other teams to develop innovative visual solutions that support broader business goals and maintain brand consistency.
Interview Preparation
- As part of the interview process, candidates who move forward to the Hiring Manager Interview will be required to share work samples.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- At least 4 years of recent client-side experience
- Experience working at a multinational business with a diverse portfolio of products, services and programs
- Must have at least 4 years of professional experience using all three applications—Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
- Experience using AI tools to support design work and design thinking
- Experience designing and maintaining brand consistency in a global products organization, or a fast-moving start-up, with deep understanding of how to design for various regions
Education
- Must have a bachelor’s, or master’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a closely related degree in the design field. Please note that software certifications (e.g., Adobe) do not substitute for a design degree.
Technology/System(s)
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Proficient or experience with Canva
- Proficient with project management platform like Asana
- Experience implementing or guiding UX/UI best practices
- Knowledge of the print/publication process from design through delivery
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
- Experience with digital asset management
Skills
- Strong conceptual and creative thinking: Ability to ideate innovative design solutions, translate abstract ideas into visual narratives, and bring creative vision to life.
- Strong eye for typography and layout: Excellent typographic skills, including font pairing, hierarchy, and overall page/screen layout. Can create clean, balanced, and visually engaging designs.
- Responsive design and optimization: Understand user experience principles and can design for optimal performance across various devices and screen sizes. Able to prepare assets for efficient delivery.
- Collaborative project management: Skills in juggling multiple design projects from start to finish, incorporating feedback, hitting deadlines, and working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Salary
Final compensation and benefits will be confirmed at the time of offer and may vary based on factors such as internal equity, relevant experience, qualifications, and employment status. Please note that salary negotiations will not extend beyond the top of the internal salary range.

- 6 weeks paid renewal leave after 7 years of continuous service
LOGISTICS
Location: This position is hybrid in the Washington, D.C. area with occasional onsite meetings required at our Washington, D.C. HQ office.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 9 AM to 5:30 PM EST
Travel %: 5%
