National Able Network, a growing Chicago-based organization specializing in the provision of innovative workforce development, employment, and training programs, has an exciting opportunity for a Career Coach for Able Career Institute (ACI)/IT Career Lab (ITCL).  National Able Network is an innovative and growing workforce non-profit that provides services throughout the Midwest to improve equitable access to sustainable employment.

  

The ACI/IT Career Lab Career Coach serves as a point of contact for students who have entered training with ACI/ITCL programs. Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, incumbent provides case management services to students throughout the course of vocational training including encouraging and mentoring students, as well as offering support/suggestions to navigate barriers that might previously exist or manifest throughout the course of the program. Case management is performed by the administration of individual assessment and regular communication used to identify potential barriers, helping students to focus on the end goals of training completion, certification, and preparation for employment. May also refer clients to outside agencies for other services (as appropriate) to ensure consistent flow of services and benefits and maintain accurate, timely and complete documentation at a minimum on a monthly basis. Incumbent then guides clients to Business Services Representative to introduce employment referrals and opportunities, including following up with clients post training completion up to 3-12 months.  


Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, manages, and maintains a caseload of new registrants as well as carryover participants, tracks students’ progress in training, toward certification, and employment outcomes. Case notes all interactions with students, and ensure student files (both electronic and hard copy) are accurate and up to date
  • Upon student entry into program, work with instructor and Manager to assess progress, provide academic counseling, goal setting, entry of case notes, and internal and external  performance reporting
  • Assess, maintain, and submit accurate, timely and complete case notes, documentation, and data for government mandated case noting systems as well as the agency’s internal reporting systems, regarding client including: all interactions, training, supportive services, job search, job placement programs, exit/termination, and follow-up activities
  • Face-to-face (in-person or online) check-in meetings with students on a regular basis (every 30 days minimum) to assess potential barriers to progress. Works with clients to develop an Individual Employment Plans (IEP) and action steps for earning certifications, completing program, and meeting employment goals. Monitor progress to goals; modifies and updates IEP as necessary
  • Determine supportive service needs and advise students on all social services for which they are eligible; may refer students with special needs to internal staff and/or      external resources as appropriate.
  • Facilitate client onboarding and career connection sessions, with guidance from Program Manager
  • Continually review and evaluate all phases of student training process and make recommendations to Senior Program Manager and team regarding procedures, policies, staff training and development, and procurement of additional resources, equipment, or services
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to manage a heavy caseload and extensive volume of paperwork in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment; May manage multiple tasks and projects on a regular basis 
  • Experienced professional having wide ranging experience with multiple employment database software and operating systems to document and record client activities
  • Works on a variety of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of variety of factors and provides recommendations and/or solutions
  • Advanced computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) 
  • Prior experience automating systems and establishing/maintaining databases ideal
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact and develop rapport with a diversified population of students
  • Strong      service-orientation and interpersonal skills; develops rapport and works      successfully with a diverse population of students, co-workers, and other external agencies
  • Flexible, self–starter with solid work ethic who can manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • High integrity, initiative, outstanding organizational skills, clear attention to detail and follow-through
  • Experience with motivational interviewing, strengths-based case management, and theory of behavioral change preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in social services, counseling, job development or related field with an employment focus and/or degree in related field
  • Previous workforce training experience a plus
  • Must be able to travel throughout Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and immediate access to an insured vehicle
