We seek a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a diverse team in developing robotic technologies, addressing productivity and labor challenges with Omron's global reach and entrepreneurial spirit.
As a Mechanical Engineering Manager you will lead a team in designing, documenting, and testing mobile and fixed robots. Drive innovation to enhance technology and user experience, working with technical leaders to set requirements and oversee design and prototype manufacturing. You will also ensure designs meet safety, performance, and cost standards through rigorous analysis. Guide prototype development and collaborate on creating fixtures, test plans, and tools.

Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineers and technical staff, managing resources, providing direction and priority, and recruiting talent for robotic product development.
- Collaborate with contributors and project managers to accurately capture the mechanical team's scope in project schedules.
- Influence design, manufacturability, quality, testability, and supply chain for safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate NPI readiness and refine current products across the organization.
- Approve design updates, test plans, and verification reports for NPI and legacy product support.
- Provide feedback to improve future designs and processes based on product rollouts.
- Mentor and develop team capabilities and growth.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with a Bachelor's degree.
- Strong communication skills across technical and management domains.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with experience resolving technical issues and setting clear action items.
- 10+ years of experience designing mechanical systems with 3D CAD, including drafting standards.
- 5-10 years of experience of technical leadership in the design and commercialization of complex electromechanical systems, including drive systems, motor control, gearing, robotics, sensing, and embedded systems from concept to product launch. Skilled in prototype fabrication and system bring-up.
- 10+ years of experience in thermal/structural design, material selection, design for reliability and manufacturing, and component selection (bearings, seals, gearboxes, motors, drivetrains).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, metal casting, injection molding, etc.
- Familiarity with all product development phases: design, implementation, debugging, verification, validation, and manufacturing transfer.
- Experienced track record inspiring, motivating and managing technical teams through product development phases.
- Proficient in talent cultivation and management to meet organizational needs.
- Experienced in managing engineering team budgets for short- and long-term needs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of electronics.
- To conform with U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government.
- Occasional travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly Skilled in resource allocation, timeline management, and project risk assessments.
- Proficient with resource management and engineering analysis tools (Smartsheets, MS Project, Smartsheets, Confluence/Jira, Matlab, Python, etc.).
- Experienced in robotics, including servo systems/motion control, mechatronics, and robot dynamics (for both robotic arm and vehicles).
- Experienced in writing technical documentation and using Solidworks Workgroup PDM, Agile PLM for revisioned documentation control.
- Experience designing hardware products to applicable global product compliance standards (including ISO, UL, CE mark, RoHS, REACH, etc.).
- Familiar with third-party certification processes and testing labs.
The annual salary range for this role in California is $160,000 - $185,000 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus program. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
