Job Summary:

The WNBA's digital products are generating global fan interest. Continuously pushing boundaries and setting new records, the league is building a best-in-class digital product suite that millions of fans are actively engaging with.
This role will support a cross-functional team responsible for the full software development life cycle, from concept to deployment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about staying on top of technology trends, experimenting with new technologies, and collaborating with both internal and external tech teams.

 

In this role, you'll balance business impact, influence, and the growth of the engineering team. You should be comfortable with both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks, and third-party libraries. As an expert in your field, you will strategically guide the team toward achieving the league’s core goals. You will foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, creative problem-solving, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • This role requires a proven track record of delivering high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Mentor and lead a team of front-end engineers
  • Hire will actively drive the architecture and implementation of critical custom-built front-end interactions, collaborate with their team to contribute to relevant open-source projects, and partner with the design organization to ensure all platform connection points are built consistently and efficiently, with scalability for the future.
  • Continuously improve software engineering practices
  • Collaborate with engineering and executive teams to anticipate needs, foster alignment, and develop solutions that balance technical excellence with business objectives.
  • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, effectively communicating priorities, roadmaps, and solutions to stakeholders at all levels, including the Head of Product, CGO, CMO, and CFO.
  • Establish and maintain an actionable monitoring system to ensure optimal visibility into system performance, minimizing false alarms while addressing real issues promptly.
  • Set coding standards and help drive the strategic technical direction of our engineering efforts, developing systems to meet or exceed business KPIs

 

Required Education/Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Software Engineer or similar role
  • At least 4 years of experience in people management
  • Proven experience developing web and mobile applications and cloud computing
  • Experience with Unit Testing (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Chai)

 

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:

  • Strong knowledge of Node.js 14.x+, ES6+, TypeScript, and experience with asynchronous operations (e.g., promises, generators)
  • Strong knowledge of Amazon Web Services inclusive of Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, SQS, EC2, auto-scaling and other micro-services
  • Strong knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, JSON, XML)
  • Strong knowledge of multiple JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Node.js, React, Vue.js) and back-end languages (e.g. PHP, Node, Python)
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB), web servers (e.g. Apache), and UI/UX design
  • Familiarity with common stacks, Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks (e.g., Akamai), and CI/CD stack
  • Knowledge of web server technologies (e.g. Apache) and web proxies (e.g. Varnish)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, inclusive of Azure DevOps, API management, Virtual Machines Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 (and up) and how to remotely manage Windows server instances
  • Familiarity with Adobe suite, specifically Adobe After Effects CC 2018 (and up), and its use of a rendering CLI (e.g., aerender)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

 

Salary Range: $180,000 - $195,000
