Position Overview: The Additive Manufacturing Intern will analyze 3D printed metal samples using a variety of tools, equipment and techniques.   The role will focus on measuring using laboratory equipment to perform and record, tensile pull tests, surface roughness, part density, and part dimensions.  In addition, preparing the machine for operation, processing jobs that have been printed, and performing light troubleshooting on the machine. The ideal candidate will have experience in a laboratory setting collecting data, have a basic understanding of engineering principles, experience with CAD, experience operating machinery, have good attention to detail and have experience with Microsoft office.  

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Precisely follow process instruction
  • Perform an initial review of test results
  • Clean and prepare the printer for the next job
  • Remove metal parts from the build plate using a bandsaw
  • Keep track of production inventory
  • Organize and present data in Excel
  • Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy.
  • Generate engineering reports and technical documentation.
  • Frequent communication with internal technical staff.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Has a basic knowledge of engineering principles
  • Some hands-on laboratory experience (classroom experience is sufficient)
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy is a plus.
  • Experience in additive manufacturing (AM) is a plus.
  • Has experience operating machinery
  • Having forklift certification is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven flexibility in managing shifting priorities and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Travel, operating a vehicle, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting, and reaching. Pushing, pulling, and lifting objects. Repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements.
  • Periodic: Operating power equipment, sitting at a desk, utilizing computers and phones.
  • Occasional: Lifting or moving up to 50lbs.
