About the Department
The Family Justice Center Intake Specialist will increase agency capacity by serving as the portal of entry and contact for clients seeking services at the FJC. Duties include interviewing clients to determine appropriate services, assisting clients by coordinating the various programs and services at the FJC.
The primary purpose of the Family Justice Center is to provide the backbone infrastructure for our community’s response to interpersonal violence. It is a public/private partnership of agencies dedicated to ending domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking and elder abuse through prevention, education and a coordinated response of comprehensive, client-centered empowerment services organized in a single location.
Position Duties
Major Duties:
Major job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Center Coordination
This position is responsible for:
- Greeting and receiving FJC visitors, agency partners, and clients including victims of domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking, human trafficking and sexual assault.
- Completing appropriate intakes with clients, making and tracking referrals to services, provide follow up with clients.
- Supervising the waiting room and children’s playroom to support a safe and welcoming environment for families seeking services, answer telephone calls to FJC promptly and efficiently, provide information and/or referrals to routine inquiries or route calls to appropriate FJC staff and partners
- Sharing information regarding mutual cases through a system of signed client releases of information
- Performing other duties, functions, special projects, and responsibilities as deemed necessary for effective services to clients.
Assure quality services and program efficiency and effectiveness
This position requires the employee to:
- Ensure that all activities carried out in the name of the Family Justice Center are in accordance with the Center’s mission, policies and procedures, as well as its purpose and intent.
- Explain policies, procedures, etc. to clients, the public, partners and/or staff when required.
- Compile and report statistical data as required
- Maintain client records including danger assessment, intake paperwork, referrals, client releases, visit summaries, and case review documentation.
- Maintain inventory lists of equipment and supplies
- Serve on FJC partner committees or other team meetings assigned by the FJC Director.
- Encourage collaboration and communication within the partnership to ensure victim-centered services.
- Participate in meetings and committees for planning program services/activities; monitoring, evaluating, and providing feedback.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma is required and a demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through a minimum of 2 years of experience in an office, government, or setting.
Public contract experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data are also required.
Typing skills are necessary.
Knowledge and/or experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence is preferred.
Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred.
Computer Skills: Prior experience with intermediate Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) knowledge is required. Must have prior experience working with a client database.
License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver’s license.
Other Qualifications
This employee should have considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework, group work, and community problems; knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems; and of governmental and private organizations and community resources. This employee will need knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program; skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems.
This employee needs the ability to work as part of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, which includes ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, team, clients, and partner agencies within and outside of the Family Justice Center. Experience working with victims of domestic violence and their children, victims of sexual assault, victims of child abuse, and victims of elder abuse is preferred. Knowledge of best practices relating to family violence, which includes identification, safety, and confidentiality.
