The Bar Manager is responsible for overseeing all beverage operations for weddings, museum programs, and private events held at both the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead and the Margaret Mitchell House in Midtown. This role ensures efficient bar services, consistent product quality, and exceptional guest experience. Providing leadership and direction to a team of approximately 12 bar staff, fosters a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and inclusivity, creating a welcoming environment for both guests and employees.
Requirements
- Serve as the onsite beverage lead during events, ensuring bar staff deliver exceptional service and uphold AHC standards.
- Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams to align bar service with each event’s menu, setup, and execution plan.
- Review event documentation and communicate setup, product, and staffing needs to bartenders and event staff.
- Coordinate bar logistics—including equipment, product distribution, and specialty requests—to ensure readiness.
- Train and lead bar staff to maintain consistent drink quality, presentation, and guest service.
- Supervise bartenders during events, manage breaks, support guest interactions, and resolve service issues.
- Oversee deliveries, inventory, and proper storage of beverages and supplies.
- Maintain bar and storage areas in a clean, organized, and compliant condition, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Monitor POS operations (Square) for accuracy, accountability, and timely reporting.
- Provide courteous, professional guest service, resolving issues promptly.
- Embody and promote the Five Stars of Private Events—Integrity, Quality, Collaboration, Helpfulness, and Grace—in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of the Private Events Department and the Atlanta History Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2–3 years of bar management experience, preferably in event or venue settings.
- Proven experience in training and supervising bar or event staff.
- Maintains a polished, professional appearance in alignment with Atlanta History Center standards.
- Proficient in mathematics for budgeting and event-related data analysis.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Excellent communication and guest service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, especially under pressure.
- In-depth knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, and cocktail preparation.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
- Positive and confident leadership style that fosters motivation and professionalism.
- Skilled in staff training, coaching, and conflict resolution with composure and openness.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 90% of shift) with urgency and attentiveness.
- Regularly lift 50+ pounds for loading/unloading and stocking.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Pay Range: $17.50-$18.50 per hour—with the potential to earn additional event-related income ranging from approximately $12,000 to $15,000 annually.
