About The Role:
The HR Generalist will provide support across the full spectrum of HR functions including payroll, systems, compliance, recordkeeping, onboarding and offboarding. This role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive matters with integrity and discretion. This individual will support 300+ employees on matters related to payroll, benefits and other HR related duties. You will play a critical role in fostering a positive, compliant, and efficient work environment at The Village School.
Job Description:
Payroll Responsibilities
Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Coordinate payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
Communicate with managers to ensure timely approval of timesheets
Reconcile and resolve payroll issues, including adjustments for stipends, retroactive pay, vacation, and personal time
Provide support and guidance to managers and senior leadership regarding payroll matters
General HR Responsibilities
Maintain accurate employee records in personnel folders and HRIS systems
Prepare letters, reports, and documentation for HR processes and projects
Verify I-9 documentation and ensure compliance with employment eligibility requirements
Track employee acknowledgements for policies, procedures, and training
Assist with benefits administration, including open enrollment and leave of absence claims (STD, LTD, FMLA)
Manage verifications of employment, unemployment claims, and service records
Audits (payroll, 401K, compliance) with accurate data collection and reporting
Provide guidance and support to employees on HR policies, benefits, and systems
Oversee safeguarding, background checks, and compliance documentation for vendors and volunteers
Collaborate with school leaders and staff to support HR needs across the school community
Recruitment
Post jobs and manage recruitment files in support of hiring processes
Track pre-employment requirements for new hires and ensure compliance
Facilitate onboarding and orientation sessions for new staff, ensuring smooth integration into the school
Coordinate with internal departments to complete onboarding and training requirements
Health & Safety Compliance
Accurately track and maintain safeguarding compliance data for employees and vendors when needed.
Conduct weekly audits and reports to ensure school-wide compliance
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree required
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
3-4 years of experience in payroll and HR administration
Knowledge of payroll, time and attendance laws, and standard HR practices
Experience with HRIS systems (HR Connect & Success Factors a plus)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with compliance, safeguarding, and background tracking preferred
Strong analytical skills with ability to measure success against KPIs
