Job Title: Food Safety and Quality Specialist  

Department: Operations

Reports To: Director of Food Safety and Quality 

Position Type: Full Time

Shift/Schedule: 1st Shift, 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday - Friday

Pay Rate: Hourly (Rate based on experience) 


Purpose of Position To conduct in-depth quality checks, audits, and inspections and ensure that the customers’ requirements are successfully executed. Promote Food Safety Culture to all employees and Management throughout the company.

Position Competency:

  1. Intermediate computer skill level to include but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other admin related programs.

  3. Ability to read, comprehend and interpret operating instructions, training and procedure manuals.
  4. Must have good communication skills (verbal & written). 
  5. Ability to stand, bend, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for an extended period of time.
  6. Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  7. Must have outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail is must. 


Position Expectations

Productivity / Administrative:

  1. Excellent communication skills; attention to detail and able to speak effectively to employees, managers, customers.
  2. Excellent listening skills; ability to provide positive and corrective feedback.
  3. Ability to perform process audits & data entry.
  4. Willing to learn quality assurance to support Repacking & labeling operations.
  5. Will require SQF Training and will need to complete the SQF Implementation for Manufacturer Exam and receive a passing score.
  6. Have created or updated HACCP & Food Safety Plans. 
  7. Certification by recognized HACCP training provider or willing to get
  8. FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human – Job experience or PCQI certification 
  9. Working knowledge of regulations and guidelines in food with federal and state agencies and authorities with knowledge of FDA regulations and guidelines 
  10. Able to work in a fast-paced environment with little or no supervision.  
  11. Work as a team to promote food safety throughout the company.
  12. Willing to travel between your office and warehouses daily, and may be required to travel out of state to help support as needed.

Audits:

  1. Conduct random quality inspections for custom packaging, repacking, and labeling operations and review documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  2. Identify non-conformances and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain product integrity, customer satisfaction, and food safety.
  3. Support warehouse management in maintaining compliance with various auditing schemes (e.g., SQF, AIB). May need to service in an interim capacity for SQF Practitioner or Quality when required.
  4. Experience in internal auditing.
  5. Implementation and review of customer-specific requirements.
  6. Act as the subject matter expert for pest control within operations and willing to go onsite and investigate and help resolve any pest-related concerns.
  7. Create food safety and quality presentations and present at monthly food safety meetings and management reviews with management.
  8. Update food safety plans and quality programs, staff training, and review of required documentation.
  9. Assure all programs, policies, and procedures are complaint with regulatory and other standards and kept up to date.
  10. Serve as a liaison for regulatory agencies, customer, internal audits, and 3rd party audits. 
  11. Work with Management to make sure all food safety and quality documentation are conducted and the information is accurate (e.g., Facility Audit, Glass & Brittle Plastic, Food Defense, Allergen Control, etc.). 
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Safety and Quality.
  13. Review and advice to management on all audit findings (regulatory, customer, 3rd party audits, and internal audits, etc.

Safety

  1. Follow established food/safety SOPs and AIB standards.
  2. Report equipment and facility building / grounds / damage and repairs.
  3. Foster a culture of safety throughout the work place to achieve safety goals and objectives.
  4. Follow established safety and security SOPs.
