Job Summary

Position responsible for performing routine but somewhat varied clerical duties for assigned department.

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Office Assistant to support our General Surgery (9th floor) and Rehabilitation (8th floor) departments. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a foundational knowledge of basic medical terminology, and previous experience in either direct patient care or an administrative role within a healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities include coordinating with nurses and doctors, assisting with patient discharge processes, transporting specimens, managing supplies and equipment, and providing exceptional customer Service. The role also involves shift coverage from 3 PM to 11 PM and may include other duties as assigned.

Familiarity with EPIC and Microsoft Office is strongly preferred.

3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: (None)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of clerical experience.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Types letters, memorandums, and other documents; Files documents as established by departmental procedures.
  • Photocopies records, forms and other documents. Sort and distribute departmental mail.
  • Answers departmental telephones as necessary. Verifies information and resolves common problems.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
