This position is central to the Missionary Department’s role to “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel though faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.
This position requires consistent and effective communication with priesthood leaders at various levels of the Church. The specialist must handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism, ensuring that crucial conversations regarding missionary candidate screening, assignments, and individual circumstances are conducted with clarity, empathy, and sound judgment that is in line with ecclesiastical direction. This includes providing guidance, addressing complex or delicate issues, and maintaining strong working relationships built on trust and respect.
The specialist position will also oversee the coordination of all temporary assignments and MTC changes when missionaries are delayed due to visas. This position includes being responsible to provide support for all area offices regarding the recommendation process and visa issues and directly coordinates with missionary travel and area travel offices throughout the world. This position also includes coordinating with General Authorities in the Missionary Department and preparing information for the Quorum of the Twelve on a weekly basis.
This position is a grade level 93.
Responsibilities
Logistical Management and Critical Decision Making: 45%
- Identify and manage all missionaries that need a temporary assignment due to visa delays, including preparing them for assignment (by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve) and coordinating with the travel office, mission presidents, and MTC's
- Ensuring all missionary recommendations are properly and efficiently processed through the recommendation and screening systems.
- Responsible to Identify individual situations in the screening process that are outside of policy, so they can be reviewed by the Brethren
- Responsible for missionary assignment post review and processing; ensuring missionary assignment details are accurate and correctly processed
- Responsible for all (on-line and paper) missionary call letter and packet accuracy and processing
- Coordinate translations of all call letters and packets on a weekly basis.
- Manage call packet database of data strings and associated rules.
- Manage call packet phrase changes
- May serve as member of the Church Visa Committee with senior department leadership.
Communication and Training: 40%
- Support local and international ecclesiastical leaders, mission presidents, and staff to ensure that mission recommendations are processed, and changes to call packet database are made to meet the needs of the missions, missionaries and priesthood leaders.
- Provide excellent customer service and quick resolutions to questions or issues raised by missionaries, family members, ecclesiastical leaders and General Authorities.
- Mange questions and provide local leader support regarding the missionary recommendation process, and policies.
- Provide area office support requiring missionary assignments and the coordination of all international missionary changes
- Liaison with missionary portal team regarding content changes and call letter process.
- Help to propose changes to core systems by identifying deficiencies that can be improved
Reporting: 15%
- Prepare information for Quorum of the Twelve to use in determining temporary assignments for missionaries.
- Create ad-hoc reports to manage missionaries in temporary assignments, monitor trends and to improve processes.
- Assist with special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations or related, with 3 years of professional work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to quickly learn and understand complex computer system processes
- Ability to perfom tasks with a high level of professionalism
- Ability to calmly manage multiple urgent projects at once
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through education or experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel
- Understanding of Church policies and procedures
- Ability to use database reporting tools, such as Business Objects and analyze data
