Facility Engineering Services, a Burns & McDonnell company, is looking for a Senior Estimator to develop multi-discipline estimates throughout all phases of the project life cycle at the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility of the Kansas City National Security Campus, operated by Honeywell, in Kansas City, MO.
The National Security Campus is a Department of Energy facility and one of the only LEED Gold-rated manufacturing and engineering facilities in the U.S., with environmentally friendly features, innovative space management and award-winning design.
The Senior Estimator will be required to generate construction-related estimates for a variety of disciplines and projects in a heavy industrial/manufacturing environment. Estimates required as a part of this role include the following:
Conceptual/budgetary estimates
Detailed design estimates
Independent bid estimates (for evaluation of contractor bids)
Change order estimates
Special assignments as directed
This position requires a competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
Receive, schedule, and manage project estimate requests.
Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and estimate reports for facilities projects. Must be able to accurately estimate a variety of construction disciplines, including but not limited to: HVAC, piping/plumbing, electrical, millwright work, structural, architectural, site work/excavation, concrete, masonry, and other common construction trades.
Create, log, and distribute estimate reports.
Evaluate contractor proposals for accuracy and reasonableness. Provide detailed feedback to the customer regarding estimate evaluations.
Maintain historical estimate data and cost records.
Evaluate site and market trends and adjust estimate strategies as needed. Generate various reports on site cost trends (overall project and discipline-specific).
Coordinate with project team members, including Project Managers, Design Engineers, Utility Engineers, and others to ensure estimates comply with site requirements.
Actively develop relationships with all levels of the client organization, FES staff, and construction contractors.
Participate in quality reviews for project designs. Review and evaluate constructability and cost effectiveness and provide feedback to the project team.
Attend and participate in Pre-Bid Meetings.
Develop Rough Order of Magnitude estimates for project initiations.
Develop conceptual or future planning estimates.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited program, plus 7 years of closely related experience, Associate's degree plus 9 years of related experience or high school diploma plus 11 years of related experience.
US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Security Clearance is required.
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and apply the interpretation of project documents in the areas of constructability and execution costs.
Familiarity with government estimating requirements and estimate classes preferred.
General understanding of all construction disciplines.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in a core estimating software is required. Proficiency in RS Means Online is preferred.
Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe/Bluebeam).
OSHA-10 or 30 Hour Certification (either existing, or the ability to obtain the certification through company-provided resources).
