JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW

The controller plays a key role in the financial management of the company. The controller is responsible for overseeing the company's financial activities and ensuring that financial reporting is accurate and in compliance with relevant regulations. The controller will provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the accounting team and oversee all outputs from the team are compliant with company requirements and regulations according to the law. The controller is a senior-level position with a focus on ensuring the financial health and integrity of the company. They work closely with other departments and executives to provide accurate financial information and support strategic decision-making.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Build, lead, and oversee the accounting function for a multi-entity insurance organization,
ensuring financial accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all entities.
• Lead the commissions department, ensuring proper reconciliation, backlogging, and posting of
commissions in coordination with internal teams.
• Oversee and ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes,
including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Review and present consolidated financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash
flow, and entity-level P&Ls) to the CFO and executive leadership.
• Monitor financial performance and provide insights, forecasts, and recommendations that support
operational and strategic goals.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, insurance accounting principles, and applicable regulatory
standards.
• Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard
assets and ensure data integrity.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax professionals, bankers, and investors;
coordinate audits and ensure timely submission of materials.
• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and commissions teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness,
and accountability.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership teams, HR, and operations to ensure financial
processes align with organizational priorities.
• Provide financial insight and analysis for executive presentations and board-level
discussions.
• Continuously evaluate systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy across
accounting workflows.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


TOOLS / EQUIPMENT
• Computer, headset, and related office equipment


SOFTWARE
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• ERP experience required; NetSuite preferred.
• Familiarity with insurance management systems (e.g., Applied Epic) is a plus.

PHYSICAL
• Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
• Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

WORK SCHEDULE
• Remote position.
• Standard 40-hour work week, normal duty hours as assigned.
• May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.

TRAVEL
• Less than 10% of the time.
