PURPOSE:

The Security Captain supports all administrative, operational, and managerial functions of the Berkeley Hall Security Department. This role provides leadership, oversight, and hands-on participation in all areas of the security operation to ensure the safety, privacy, and service excellence expected within the Berkeley Hall community.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Member Service Excellence

  • Lead by example to promote a hospitality-driven culture across all security posts.
  • Train staff to deliver exceptional service, including safe assistance with kayaks and equipment, prompt follow-up on all service calls, and proactive member engagement.
  • Ensure all member communication is courteous, timely, and professional.
  • Maintain a visible, positive, and service-oriented presence throughout the community.

Leadership & Communication

  • Serve as the first line of contact for all officers, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Address immediate issues promptly and escalate larger concerns to the Director of Security.
  • Provide daily leadership updates outlining officer performance, actions taken, and items requiring escalation.
  • Foster accountability, professionalism, and teamwork among the staff.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication across all shifts and posts.
  • Attend local Chief and Security Director Meeting and law enforcement seminars. 
  • Assist with planning for hurricane preparedness, conduct safety programs for staff and Berkeley Hall residence. 

Staff Training & Oversight

  • Train and mentor staff on Berkeley Hall policies, member interaction, and emergency response procedures.
  • Lead or assist in training sessions for Main Gate, West Gate, and Patrol operations.
  • Ensure staff maintain current SLED certifications, First Aid/CPR and cardiac life support certifications, carry radios, and comply with all uniform and conduct standards.
  • Ensure security staff are familiar with procedures for safely handling wildlife, including poisonous snakes, alligators, and domestic animals. 
  • Ensure that all security staff receive appropriate training for any specialized equipment.
  • Address performance issues immediately and document all follow-up actions.
  • Enforce safety and service standards consistently across all shifts.

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all patrol, inspection, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accuracy within ABDi, Traffic Logix, and Avigilon systems.
  • Ensure all incidents are properly documented and submitted within 24 hours.
  • Maintain operational readiness for special events, emergencies, and coverage adjustments as needed.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Director of Security in their absence.

System Administration (ABDi, Traffic Logix, LPR)

  • Manage member, employee, and vendor data within ABDi, including RFID access, account setup, and terminations.
  • Conduct regular system audits for accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor and verify traffic cameras, radar systems, and LPR alerts daily.
  • Ensure all speed and access violations are processed and communicated appropriately.

Gate Operations

  • Oversee Main and West Gate operations, ensuring professional, efficient, and accurate control of access and records.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked gatehouses.
  • Ensure proper key control, vehicle logging, and documentation at both gates.
  • Assist West Gate operations during high-traffic periods and coordinate responses to member needs and vendor access.

Patrol Operations

  • Oversee daily patrol activities, ensuring full property coverage and visibility.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections, documenting and resolving any issues promptly.
  • Maintain patrol vehicle readiness, appearance, and accurate mileage logs.
  • Ensure consistent radio communication and quick response to calls for service.

SLED Compliance

  • Manage all officer SLED applications, renewals, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain the department’s SLED license and ensure compliance with all state requirements and deadlines.
  • Oversee training certifications and documentation to ensure full regulatory compliance.

IT & Systems Support

  • Report and document all IT issues promptly through appropriate channels.
  • Monitor functionality of ABDi, Traffic Logix, Avigilon, and related systems.
  • Follow up on open tickets and ensure timely resolution of system-related disruptions.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.   • Prior experience in private security, law enforcement, or military leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of security procedures, SLED regulations, and community safety standards.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to train, motivate, and manage a team.
  • Proficiency with security management systems and reporting tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform patrol duties throughout the property; lift up to 75 lbs as needed.

  • Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Club offers an excellent bonus and benefits package.
