Purpose

This Student Associate role will provide critical Portuguese language support to the Director’s Office within Facilities Services. The position focuses on ad-hoc translation services across a variety of formats and communication channels. Responsibilities include:

  • Translating written documents, including internal reports, memos, and project materials.
  • Translating PowerPoint presentation slides to support multilingual audiences.
  • Creating subtitles for video content used in training, orientation, or project communications.
  • Optional voiceover work for video narration, presentations, or instructional materials.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong Portuguese language proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt translations to suit different cultural and professional contexts. This role offers exposure to cross-functional projects and contributes directly to enhancing accessibility in Facilities Services communications.

Responsibilities

  • Translate written materials such as internal documents, memos, and project communications from English to Portuguese, ensuring clarity and cultural accuracy.
  • Support presentation development by translating PowerPoint slides for department meetings, training sessions, and leadership briefings.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Services staff to ensure translated materials meet project goals and are accessible to multilingual audiences.
  • Perform other project work and tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Interest in language services, communications, or multicultural engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Portuguese. Attention to detail and accuracy in translating technical and professional content. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word. Responsible and dependable, with the ability to manage translation tasks independently.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient with PowerPoint. Experience with Canva or other design tools for creating or editing translated visual content. Basic knowledge of accessibility standards for multilingual and multimedia content.

Salary Range

$18 per hour

Working Conditions

For Remote Workers:

  • Work will be performed remotely through remote connections.
  • Department-issued laptop and peripherals are available for this role.
  • This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used as required for work.

Environmental Demands:

  • May work around standard office conditions

Physical Tasks:

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
