Description

This role is budgeted to start in the $85,000-95,000 salary range, depending upon experience. This position is primarily remote with two in-office days per month, after the training period. 

 

Summary:

This position assists in overseeing Finance operations for the organization. The Senior Accountant provides accurate financial insight by overseeing AP, AR, reconciliation of all account balances, preparation of month-end/annual close procedures, monitoring funding sources, cash flow, and financial statements for the organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of the agency Finance department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance
  • Oversee financial close calendar, including direct and indirect processing of financial functions
  • Participate in the development of the agency’s plans and programs as a strategic partner and member of the Senior Management Team, providing education, financial inpu,t and leadership on decision making issues affecting the agency
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the CEO, Board of Directors, and other Senior Management in performing their responsibilities
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce fiscal policies and procedures by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the agency
  • Optimize handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position
  • In collaboration with Compliance, monitor grants and contracts to ensure agency compliance with federal, state, and local government operating and reporting requirements
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism, which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
  • Provide financial advice and perspective on Federal, State, and government contracts and any other contracts which the agency may enter, including preparation of budgets for grant applications
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of contracts with hands-on operational experience, ensuring accurate interpretation, application, and compliance with contractual terms across financial operations
  • Ensure the financial processes of the agency comply with funder contract requirements
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of agency utilities related to funder contract requirements  
  • Participate in the analysis, evaluation, recommendation, and oversight of the organization’s risk management plans and procedures
  • Plan and oversee audits with CPAs, and prepare tax returns for agency
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent training and education
  • 3 years progressive experience in all aspects of accounting and financial management
  • Experience in financial management for non-profit organizations and administration of multiple contracts and grants
  • Experience in strategic planning, fund development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and staff
  • Experience with RFP and agency budgets
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the agency
  • Working knowledge of GAAP as issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Federal Uniform Guidance, and other applicable regulatory and advisory organizations and codes
  • Proficient with Excel; effective working knowledge of other Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint); comfortable navigating in Microsoft Windows environment and using internet browsers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent training and education
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with MIP and BI
  • Experience in accounting for non-profit organizations
  • Experience with diverse communities
  • Fluency in languages other than English

 

Work environment and physical demands:

 

  • This work is typically performed in an office setting; functions are usually performed sitting but may spend some amount of time standing
  • Some amount of bending, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required 
  • Must be able to interact with people, computers, and office equipment to perform the Essential Duties and Responsibilities, with or without accommodations
  • Work may include local travel during normal business hours, and occasional travel for training/conference attendance
  • Occasional after-hours or weekend events may be required
  • This position is eligible for hybrid work with some onsite time required

SUMMARY OF BENEFITS

Employees working 25 hours or more are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, vision, basic life, and critical illness insurance, with an increased cost share for employees scheduled for 25-29 hours/week. Employees working 20 hours or more per week receive 11 designated paid holidays plus 2 "floating holidays" per year, as well as paid vacation and sick time. Employees age 21 and older are able to enroll in our 401K plan upon hire and, after one year and at least 1000 hours worked, will be eligible for our matching program.
