The Opportunity: Sustaining Products Engineer
- Join our team as a Sustaining Products Engineer, where you'll drive efforts to improve product quality, manage component obsolescence, and reduce costs. You'll ensure our products meet all specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as a key liaison and partner between production, support, repairs, and R&D, leading product lifecycle projects, resolving issues, and implementing updates to enhance performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Improvement
Develop and refine manufacturing and assembly processes, including process flows, control plans, work instructions, and setup documentation to improve efficiency and quality - Testing & Inspection
Design and implement testing and inspection methods based on product design, materials, assembly methods, and quality standards - Continuous Improvement
Lead initiatives throughout the product lifecycle by identifying deficiencies and implementing corrective and preventive actions in products, processes, workflows, equipment layouts, and supply chains - Cost Reduction
Drive cost-reduction efforts by analyzing cost drivers and implementing strategies to reduce the cost of goods sold and improve profitability - Change Management
Manage change control, variations, and configuration management for existing products - Issue Resolution
Monitor and resolve manufacturing product issues and high-priority failures while collaborating with Quality and Operations teams - Process Development
Contribute to ongoing refinement of the Product Development Process and support documentation standardization efforts - Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate across teams to ensure product design, manufacturing, and quality objectives align with organizational goals - Problem Solving
Solve problems independently, demonstrating creativity and resourcefulness - Additional Duties
Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of applied engineering experience (manufacturing, supply chain, quality, or design engineering preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred), with ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings
- Hands-on experience with engineering tools, test equipment, and machine shop tools (table saws, belt sanders, CNC tools, etc.)
- Experience repairing, maintaining, or building mechanical systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid understanding of engineering principles applied to product design and manufacturing (plastics, metals, textiles, sensors, electronics)
- Experience with PLM and ERP systems
- Proven leadership and change management skills across all levels
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Skilled in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and with global partners
Work Location
- Realityworks is located in Eau Claire, WI; this person will be primarily onsite with potential for limited remote work as business needs allow
Travel Requirements
- Occasional domestic and international travel (<10%) to support business needs.
