DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Operation HOPE is currently seeking a DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR to lead the management and protection of our enterprise data systems, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Azure SQL. This role goes beyond routine database support. This is a mission-critical position responsible for ensuring our data platforms are secure, reliable, scalable, and compliant with SOC2 standards.
The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with a strong security-first mindset, balancing day-to-day database performance management with long-term strategic initiatives around data governance, compliance, and risk mitigation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to safeguard sensitive information, support seamless application performance, and drive innovation in how we leverage SQL, Dynamics, and Azure cloud environments.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Database Administration & Management
· Install, configure, and maintain relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
· Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries and indexing strategies.
· Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Data Security & Compliance
· Ensure databases and data handling practices align with SOC 2 Type I and II compliance requirements.
· Implement database encryption, access controls, auditing, and monitoring solutions.
· Develop and enforce policies for data retention, access management, and security incident response.
· Work closely with the compliance and security teams to prepare for and support SOC 2 audits.
Collaboration & Support
· Partner with DevOps, IT, and engineering teams to integrate security best practices across applications and infrastructure.
· Provide database support for development, testing, and production environments.
· Train and mentor junior staff on database security standards and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.
· Strong hands-on experience with major database platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Oracle).
· In-depth knowledge of data security principles, including encryption, key management, access controls, and vulnerability management.
· Proven experience with SOC 2 compliance frameworks and audit processes.
· Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a security-first mindset.
· Are comfortable picking up new tools or technologies that fit the situation
· Can translate complex business problems into clear, actionable data requirements
· Understand operational KPIs and how to measure performance, workflow, and intake effectiveness
· Think strategically about how data can drive business decisions and operational improvements
· Have experience with BI tools (Power BI preferred)
· Possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail in data validation and QA
· Can identify patterns and insights that others might miss
Preferred:
· Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, AWS Database Specialty, or equivalent.
· Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL).
· Familiarity with other compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
· Knowledge of database monitoring and SIEM tools.
