AMLI Residential has a newly created role at our corporate office in Chicago. We are looking for a skilled Manager of Application Development to join our team.

The Manager of Application Development leads the software development process, managing project timelines and ensuring the delivery of high-quality applications. This role needs a mix of hands-on technical skills, people management, and project coordination. You will guide a team of software and web engineers to create and maintain applications and websites that meet our business goals and stakeholder needs.

Essential Functions:

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Work with business and technology leaders to find and design technology solutions that meet our goals.

  • Research new technologies and trends that can help our application development and digital transformation.

  • Convert business needs into technical requirements and project plans.

  • Promote and implement best practices in software design and development.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of software and web engineers, creating a collaborative work environment.

  • Manage the health, security, and performance of AMLI’s application suite.

  • Deliver software in coordination with the Application Development team using agile methods and tools.

  • Provide tier-three support for troubleshooting and maintaining AMLI applications.

  •  Improve current applications and address opportunities for upgrades.

  • Set and enforce policies and standards for development and quality assurance.

  • Manage Azure and cloud resources, ensuring cost efficiency and compliance with regulations.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development team to meet project goals and deadlines.

  • Assess business cases and technology options to suggest effective solutions.

  • Handle the RFP process and lead pilots for new software or systems.

  • Plan and manage projects from start to finish, ensuring all requirements and budgets are met.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.

  • At least five (5+) years of experience in software delivery roles with growing responsibilities.

  • Strong skills in managing software development teams.

  • Ability to handle multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with employees at all levels and with external colleagues.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (e.g., Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint)

  • Proficient in Microsoft development tools (e.g., .NET, Blazor, SQL, DevOps)

  • Experience in software development AI tools (e.g. Cursor, Code Rabbit)

  • Experience in Microsoft Azure resource management

  • Preferred experience in React, Next.js, and content management systems for web development.

  • $150,000 - $165,000 plus year-end bonuses
