Position: SPW Estimator
Work location: East Brunswick, NJ
Wage: $110,531 - $150,000 / per year*
Job Duties:
Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Engage in preconstruction efforts for DPR self-perform scope of work – Drywall, Ceilings, Specialties - Division 10, Firestopping & waterproofing - Division 7, Doors Frame & Hardware, Concrete, Demolition and Final Cleaning. Utilize software such as THE EDGE, On-Screen Takeoff, and Excel for precise quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and estimate preparation. Produce complete and detailed estimates for many different project and contract types, each requiring unique attention to details and extensive communication with the project teams. Conduct site walkthroughs to assess existing conditions and identify potential challenges. Solicit and evaluate competitive bids from vendors and subcontractors to ensure optimal pricing and scope alignment. Create proposals with detailed specific clarifications, inclusions and exclusions. Read and interpret bid documents, construction plans, schedules and specifications. Provide constructability comments and creative construction alternatives. Attend architect and owner meetings for review of costs and ideas to bring projects in on budget - Identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies to minimize project impact. Handle multiple project estimates on tight deadlines. Track project data for historical productions and costs. Monitor industry trends, labor rates, and material costs to maintain competitive estimates. Collaborate with project teams to align estimates with construction schedules for accurate resource planning. Develop and manage change orders to address scope modifications during project execution. Utilize software such as THE EDGE, On-Screen Takeoff, and Excel for precise quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and estimate preparation.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or in a commercial construction/estimator-related occupation.
Special Requirements: Position requires at least 4 years of experience in each of the following skills:
Develop construction budgets and manage cost tracking using Excel and GM Sheets systems to ensure project profitability and efficiency. Evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids using comparative analysis methodologies to secure competitive pricing and ensure compliance. Utilize CRM platforms like Cosential, CE Budget and Excel to track project statuses and costs, manage customer relationships, and forecast business opportunities. Analyze construction drawings and specifications using software like Bluebeam and AutoCAD to identify risks, clarify scopes, and ensure buildability. Perform quantity takeoffs for Roofing, below and above grade waterproofing, green roof, pavers, sheet metal using Bluebeam and On-Screen TakeOff to prepare detailed cost estimates. Conduct market trend analysis and monitor performance metrics using data-driven methodologies to improve operational decision-making and strategies. Use value engineering techniques to optimize material selection and reduce project costs without compromising quality.
