The Bakken Sales Manager is a senior-level commercial role responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding market presence within the Bakken region, primarily serving the oil and gas industry. This position requires a seasoned sales professional with deep technical knowledge, strong interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to manage complex customer relationships across field and corporate environments.
Core Responsibilities
• Sales Execution & Business Development
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and market research.
• Schedule and conduct a minimum of four prospect or customer meetings per week, including on-site visits.
• Develop tailored presentations and proposals that address customer needs and demonstrate value.
• Overcome objections and close deals effectively, ensuring alignment with company goals and profitability targets.
• Expand wallet share within existing accounts by introducing additional service lines and solutions.
• Customer Relationship Management
• Serve as the primary commercial contact for all accounts in the region.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Production Foremen, Superintendents, Engineers, and other decision-makers.
• Conduct regular customer status meetings and ensure high levels of satisfaction and retention.
• Represent Expanse Electrical professionally at trade shows, industry events, and customer training sessions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with internal service line teams to develop accurate quotes and project scopes.
• Partner with Operations leadership to ensure seamless project execution and customer service.
• Collaborate with Business Development Managers and the Vice President of Sales on joint selling efforts and strategic initiatives.
• Administrative & Strategic Duties
• Maintain accurate and timely records of prospects, opportunities, and customer interactions in the D365 CRM system.
• Provide market intelligence and competitive feedback to management.
• Assist Finance with collections on delinquent accounts when necessary.
• Comply with company policies related to expense reporting, credit card usage, and vehicle operation.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To perform effectively in this role, the candidate must possess the following skills and attributes:
Technical & Industry Knowledge
• Strong understanding of oil and gas production operations, including upstream field environments.
• General knowledge of industrial instrumentation, electrical construction, electrical distribution systems, and oilfield automation.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, scopes of work, and installation requirements.
Sales & Communication Skills
• Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals in a technical or industrial setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to various audiences.
• Strong presentation skills, including the ability to deliver compelling proposals and product demonstrations.
• Skilled in negotiation, objection handling, and closing complex deals.
Relationship & Account Management
• Ability to build trust and rapport with field personnel and corporate stakeholders.
• Experience managing long-term customer relationships and navigating multi-layered decision-making structures.
• High emotional intelligence and adaptability in diverse customer environments.
Organizational & Operational Skills
• Self-starter with excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
• Comfortable working independently and managing a dynamic schedule with frequent travel.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for managing CRM data, quotes, and follow-ups.
Technology & Tools
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with CRM systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365).
• Ability to use digital tools for quoting, reporting, and customer engagement.
