Job Description

Overview of the Department/Section

The function forms part of Japanese Corporate Department (JCD) and is responsible to develop and maintain Japanese customer base in accordance with MUFG’s group strategy, and to gain profits through promotion of MUFG products and services within the risk framework of the bank.

Main Purpose of the Role 

The Relationship Manager is responsible for the allocated profit target and the management of monitoring, building and developing a designated portfolio of existing customers and/or prospective customers, with a focus on credit, operational risk and cross sell opportunities, together with Department Head (DH) and other members of the JCD Dpt through collaboration with other MUFG network within EMEA and MUFG Japan in order to achieve and enlarge Profit Target of Paris Branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • To manage and monitor a designated portfolio of existing customer relationships in order to identify and satisfy the operational customer needs in the most appropriate way and in compliance with the Bank’s internal requirements, especially Know-Your-Customer (KYC) procedures.
  • To maintain contacts with existing customers with the aim to preserve and extend the relationship amongst others by promoting the full range of MUFG products and services, in order to enhance MUFG profitability.
  • To approach prospective customers, in consultation with DH and/or senior Relationship Managers with the aim to establish new relationships and thus enhance the bank’s profitability.
  • To advise the customers on the standard products/services of MUFG and to discuss the terms and conditions thereof. In case a requirement for non-standard and/or complex products/services is detected, you should consult with DH. and/or senior Relationship Managers.
  • To timely collect, analyze and interpret financial data on existing and prospective customers in order to maintain a good insight in the customers’ financial standing, along with other makings of credit-synopses with the support of Credit Analysts and to relay this through DH to the Management so that the bank’s position can be optimally monitored and safeguarded.
  • To timely review credit applications prepared by Credit Analysts.
  • To scope, review and implement legal and other documentation ensuring compliance with Bank and Regulatory policy, KYC, sanction monitoring in order to minimize risk. To coordinate customer’s daily operational enquiries  (phone and/or email) with the appropriate colleagues in order to resolve their issues satisfactorily.
  • To take care of complaints from customers by giving information to the customer on procedures and/or to solve the underlying problem and to make suggestions to DH and/or to the Management regarding procedures to circumvent such problems.
  • To execute a variety of tasks and/or instructions given by the Management in respect of business expansion of all MUFG group. To improve the productivity of JCBD and/or other divisions of Paris Branch, in order to contribute the increase in Net Operating Profit.
  • To collaborate with other JCD members in order to meet the target and other team requirements, by harmonizing with the whole team members in JCD.
  • To motivate, develop and appraise other team members so that their individual and collective performance is of the required standard and meets the current and future needs of the business.
  • To ensure compliance with the Bank’s rules, policies, procedures and guidelines together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.

Work Experience

  • A significant experience (at least 5 years) in a similar job.
  • Knowledge/experience in transaction banking field (cash management) is preferable.

Skills and Experience

Functional / Technical Competencies:

  • The function requires knowledge of the (intra-) departmental work flows and processes, of the products offered by our Front Office and of the applicable internal and external legislation.
  • The function also requires knowledge and understanding/experience of/with the bank's credit risk business, policies, rules and guidelines.
  • A good awareness of country, market and sector developments is essential for the pro-active monitoring of country, market and industry trends and the effect on the customer’s and the bank’s risk profile.
  • Basic financial knowledge, data-processing
  • PC skills: Windows, MS Office (Words, Excel. Access, PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook  
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and French are essential.
  • Pro-actively develops and maintains relationships with a wide range of keys contacts in transaction banking areas of MUFG.

Education / Qualifications:

  • Education at University level
  • Language: English C2 - Professional level
