Position Overview

The Producer, Commercial Lines Middle Market, is responsible for prospecting, soliciting, quoting, and selling new Commercial Accounts in Excess of $35,000 in annual premium.  This individual identifies insurance prospects and develops a book of business that is profitable for both the agency and the carriers.  The Producer will work to identify external prospects and clients, as well as, middle market bank leads, and will work with Commercial Lines Account Managers and Director of Account Placement to ensure accounts are written and serviced properly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs insurance plans and recommends coverage to clients.
  • Informs and educates clients about policy coverage, changes, exclusion, and insurance coverage needs.
  • Prequalifies insurance prospects for insurability and quality of risk, both from external cold calling and internal referrals.
  • Surveys loss exposure, needs, and possible uninsurable or difficult to insure exposures for clients.
  • Works with clients to ensure limit and coverage adequacy.
  • Educates clients concerning agency payment expectations and cancellation procedures.
  • With the help of the Account Manager, creates letters to clients offering coverage, sharing information and advice regarding insurance matters. Uses these to round out accounts fully.
  • Recommends and helps insureds carry out loss control programs, independently and with company loss control staff.
  • Works with Commercial Lines Account Manager to ensure Account Manager has everything they need from client to adequately service accounts.
  • Works with Account Manager and Director of Account Placement to ensure clients receive New Business and Renewal proposals, as well as service meetings where needed.
  • Identifies and contacts prospective commercial insurance clients through cold calls, networking, and referrals.  
  • Creates and maintains client or prospect lists.
  • Develops, follows, and completes sales objectives.
  • Asks for referrals from insureds to help generate new business.
  • With Account Manager, reviews existing policy coverage, at least annually, to upgrade accounts and remarket, if necessary.
  • Documents automated file as appropriate. Uses each client contact as an opportunity for coverage review and marketing of need covered.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients.
  • Tracks and documents sales activities in CRM or agency management system.
  • Completes applications in agency management system and coordinates marketing of account with account manager.
  • Creates insurance proposals; makes sales presentations to prospective and existing clients on new and renewal business as needed.
  • Provides needed information and clarifications about clients to company personnel, and documents system by transaction date.
  • Assists service staff to collect client information in preparation of schedules of insurance, summaries, and renewal proposals.
  • Requests binders from account manager for preparation and delivers binders to insureds upon completion.
  • Reviews appropriate policy change requests and other account activity.
  • Contacts insureds to assist Account Manager in collection of past due premiums or audit amounts.
  • Accepts and handles any duties/prospects as assigned by agency management.
  • Meets production and retention goals as assigned by agency management.
  • Interacts with others effectively by utilizing good communications skills, cooperates positively and provides information and guidance, as needed, to contribute to the business efforts of the agency.
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to client inquiries.
  • Responds to referrals quickly and effectively.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to clients, customers, employees, carriers, or as appropriate, other information.
  • Ensures documents are accurate and complete, minimizing the risk of errors or omissions that could lead to disputes or financial loss.

 Education & Qualifications

  • A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in a related position normally required.
  • Valid Insurance License for assigned state required (or must be obtained within 60 days of start date).
  • Completion of CISR or CIC designation preferred.
  • Experience using Applied Epic or similar client relationship management system strongly preferred.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Skill(s)

Thorough knowledge of all lines of insurance with an emphasis on commercial lines of insurance; adequate knowledge of agency operations, including claims handling, procedures, carrier rating, agency management systems and applicable insurance laws/codes; knowledge of insurance rating and underwriting procedures; interest in sales, demonstrates a desire to achieve set goals, self-driven/competitive mindset; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with agency management systems; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.

Pay Transparency

We set standard salary ranges for our roles based on the position, function, and responsibilities, as benchmarked against similarly sized companies in our industry. Specific compensation offered will be determined based on a combination of factors including the candidate’s knowledge, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials. The salary range may vary based on geographic location.
