ABOUT THE POSITION: DISTRIBUTION CENTER OPERATIONS MANAGER (OUTBOUND) – The Distribution Center Outbound Operations Manager leads and develops the outbound team, ensuring accurate, efficient, and cost-effective order processing and shipment of merchandise to more than 100 retail stores. This hands-on role oversees all outbound functions—including picking, packing, shipping, and quality control—while driving operational excellence through industry best practices and continuous process improvement. The manager is accountable for meeting productivity and efficiency KPIs, implementing workflow improvements, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance. This role is responsible for actively leading, coaching, and mentoring team members to achieve and sustain exceptional individual and team performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outbound (Picking, Packing & Store Shipments) | Oversee the picking and packing of store orders in alignment with replenishment schedules, ensuring all shipments to retail locations are accurate, on time, and cost-efficient. |
Team Leadership & Shift Supervision | Lead, mentor, and support a team of about 15 associates, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Plan labor needs, assign daily tasks, and provide hands-on coaching to team leads and associates to develop skills and enhance performance. Ensure thorough onboarding, position-specific and safety training, and ongoing compliance with Tandy’s policies and procedures, while actively engaging and motivating the team to achieve productivity and quality goals. |
Quality Control & Compliance | Manage rigorous checks for order accuracy, product condition, and label verification, ensuring full compliance with internal quality standards and all retailer and vendor requirements. |
Safety | Oversee and maintain a safe and clean working environment and implementing and training in safety protocols . |
Process Improvement & Warehouse Metrics | Monitor and analyze key performance indicators—such as pick accuracy, order fill rate, and time to ship—to track productivity and service levels. Proactively identify bottlenecks and process inefficiencies, then lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives to enhance speed, accuracy, and cost efficiency while fostering a culture of data-driven decision making and accountability. |
Cross-Departmental Communication | Foster strong cross-department communication by partnering with teams across DC operations, merchandising, and store operations to align schedules, share key performance insights, and drive continuous improvement in outbound performance. |
Special Projects | Undertake additional initiatives and projects as assigned. |
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience & Leadership
- 3–5+ years of warehouse supervision/management experience leading a sizeable team of associates in a retail distribution or similar high-volume environment.
- Proven record of coaching, mentoring, and developing teams to achieve productivity, accuracy, and efficiency KPIs in a deadline-driven setting.
- Demonstrated ability to foster engagement, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Operational Expertise
- Hands-on experience with store order fulfillment, retail cycle replenishment, and seasonal throughput planning.
- Proficiency with standard warehouse equipment (e.g., forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift) and ability to train and certify team members.
- Familiarity with WMS platforms, barcode scanning, and shipment methods (LTL, parcel) to ensure accurate, timely, and cost-effective deliveries.
- Strong working knowledge of warehouse layouts, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance standards, with a track record of successful implementation.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments such as Purchasing, Transportation, and Retail Operations to resolve issues and align priorities.
- Skilled at clear, proactive communication with all levels of staff and management to ensure timely completion of duties and accurate reporting of issues.
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology systems.
- Personal Attributes
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities with a strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy and high productivity.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and eager to identify “better ways” to improve processes and efficiency.
- Willingness to learn multiple functions and cross-train as needed.
- Education & Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Reliable transportation, excellent attendance, and punctuality.
- Ability to bend, walk/stand for 8+ hours, and lift 30–50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in environments with dust, dirt, and occasional exposure to hazardous materials (with appropriate safety measures).

Salary of $75,000-80,000 per year based on experience/certifications.
