Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and submission of environmental permit applications and approval documents for design and construction projects
- Support the development of technical reports, such as Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Screening Reports and permit compliance documentation
- Participate in fieldwork activities including wetlands delineations, habitat assessments, and environmental surveys
- Conduct desktop research and data collection using tools such as ArcGIS, NJDEP GeoWeb, USFWS IPaC, and Nearmap to identify environmental constraints
- Provide support in coordinating project details such as scope, schedule, and budget with internal teams and external consultants
- Attend meetings with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to support senior staff and gain experience with permitting process
- Assist in preparing documentation to demonstrate compliance with Executive Order 215 and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), under guidance
- Support mitigation efforts, including coordination with mitigation banks, assistance in designing mitigation sites, and participation in monitoring activities
- Help prepare materials and documentation for project procurement proposals
- Effectively manage assigned tasks and deadlines while adapting to shifting priorities in a collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field
- Internship, coursework, or academic project experience related to environmental science, permitting, or fieldwork
- Exposure to wetlands delineations, habitat assessments, or environmental site assessments through academic or volunteer work preferred
- General familiarity with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations (preferred, not required)
- Basic understanding of New Jersey vegetation and ecological systems (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skill
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using ArcGIS for mapping, data analysis, or spatial visualization
