Background

Unlocking the Vaults is a new project starting in November 2024, developed by the Public and Cultural Engagement team, based at The Exchange. The Exchange is a civic-facing venue in Centenary Square in the city centre with a focus on public and cultural engagement activities. The Exchange brings together the University’s research, teaching and networks to create a place of curiosity, celebration, collaboration and change. Through accessible public programmes and community engagement activity our ambition is to enable people from the city and wider region to get involved in the University’s work to address the complex challenges. The Exchange is located in the former Head Offices of Birmingham Municipal Bank, built in 1933. We are now actively celebrating the heritage of this unique place.
