JOB SUMMARY: 

The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of buildings and public areas, meeting spaces, offices, classrooms, student cafeteria, Terrace Café and student dorms etc. as well as building entrances, and the assignment and supervision of the maintenance employees. This full-time position follows a regular Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, as a hands-on supervisory role, the supervisor is expected to work alongside staff and adjust their schedule as needed to provide training and support to second shift employees (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintenance of facilities and supervisory role

  • Ensure that public areas, offices, classrooms, bathrooms, student cafeteria, Terrace Café, student dorms, etc. are cleaned and trash removed to high standards through their own work and the supervision  and scheduling of custodial work for multiple shifts, working with Environmental Services Group Leaders. 

  • Establish, maintain and supervise cleaning schedules per shift and per building to ensure efficient use of staff time. 

  • Regularly work alongside staff to accomplish tasks, train employees in details of job, and supervisor second shift.   

  • Audit employee work quality along with Environmental Services Group Leaders to ensure departmental standards are being met and maintained. Prepare and provide weekly summarized reports to the C.S. &  E.S. Director. 

  • Create and/or manage work orders using a computer-based (MaintainX) work order system. Review incoming work orders and schedules for special events using the MaintainX system, Munson calendars, and set-up sheets. 

  • Determine and schedule labor and materials as required.  


Snow removal

Assist Grounds Supervisor with snow removal, clearing entrances to Museum (including Education Wing, Fountain Elms, and main Museum building front and back entrances and steps) and steps from the Museum to the parking lot.  

Finance 

  • Perform purchasing duties, prepare purchase orders and payment requests to the C.S. & E.S. Director. 

  • Maintain adequate level of cleaning supplies and custodial equipment. 

  • Manage contractual services as required (temporary cleaning services, waste removal services, etc) Manage RFP’s (requests for proposals) as authorized. 


Staffing

  • Maintain levels of staffing by hiring, onboarding, and training new staff per Munson policy.

  • Provide introductory and annual performance reviews as well and regular check-ins to provide support, performance counseling, and encouragement as needed, working with Divisional Director and Human Resources for performance issues. 

  • Track work needs and hours to maintain salaries and overtime within budget. Track time off requests and benefit hours to ensure adequate levels of staffing are maintained. 

  • The Physical Plant staff often support other departments by assisting with special events, such as the Arts Festival, major exhibition openings, student move-in day, etc.


Equipment

  • Supervise maintenance and repair of departmental equipment and tools including floor care machines, vacuum cleaners, etc. 

  • Prepare proposals for new equipment purchase for Divisional Director’s review and, if necessary, capital expenditure approval. 


Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • May respond to emergency situations as needed due to weather or other building emergencies 

  • May be asked to serve on Munson interdivisional committees


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

  • Required: Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) and 5 years supervisory experience required, preferably in custodial/environmental services. Working knowledge of cleaning, equipment, and supplies typically found in custodial services. 

  • Effective organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and follow through on all assignments with minimal direction

  • Computer and report writing skills including Microsoft office, MaintainX computer based work order systems

  • Driver’s license required to operate Munson vehicles.

  • Must be able to climb ladders, kneel, stoop, bend, lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance

  • Excellent communication skills and welcoming, professional interpersonal skills to interact with Munson staff and facultystudents, and Munson visitors and patrons

  • Critical thinking, consensus building, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to gather information, sort, draft, and provide analysis for budgetary and purchasing projects

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Supervises Environmental Services staff (day shift – 5 and evening shift – 5) and has responsibilities for hiring, termination, performance appraisals or performance counseling. The Supervisor is expected work closely with staff in a leadership and mentoring scenario, leading by example and sharing in daily maintenance duties outside of supervision and office work. 

COMPUTER MACHINE & EQUIPMENT SKILLS

Departmental equipment and tools:  floor care machines, vacuum cleaners, etc.. Additional equipment and tools as needed.

Basic personal computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing, bookkeeping, and/or data entry.  Basic knowledge/use of computer, printer, photocopier, phone system, fax machine, and scanner.  Requires experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and various software programs. 


MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMAND: 

Close mental and visual attention is required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing and  analyzing data and figures, using tools and equipment and computer terminals, and/or extensive reading. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 

Work is performed in both internal and external environments with temperature changes and weather conditions based on seasonal responsibilities.

The final candidate will be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check.
