Job Description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Copy edit NJ Spotlight News digital content including daily news stories, video summaries, op-eds and social media posts as needed
Write compelling, SEO-based headlines and subheads in conjunction with Managing Editor
Create, design and schedule content pages in WordPress CMS with an eye to design best practices and SEO
Source/select photos, graphics and adapt or create images with Adobe Photoshop
Liaise with broadcast/social platform colleagues regarding photos, graphics, video, social media etc.
Use basic HTML to fix intermittent content-rendering issues in WordPress and troubleshoot technical issues with WNET technical personnel
Join in resolution of occasional legal issues regarding content, usually at behest of managing editor and general counsel
Handle audio and video files for inclusion in some stories, downloading from YouTube or retrieving embed codes, etc.
Other relevant duties, as assigned.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess strong strategic thinking skills as well as the ability to handle pressure and function under tight deadlines. Other qualifications include:
Minimum 7 years of related experience, including 5+ years previous news producing or web producing experience at a news organization;
Proven ability to write feature stories in a journalistic voice;
Ability to use outside-the-box thinking to create engaging digital content;
Familiarity with social media management.
