JOB TITLE: Litigation Paralegal
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Attorney(s)
MANAGER: Office Managing Partner
SUMMARY: Assists attorneys throughout the entire lawsuit lifecycle which includes the initial assessment of a case, investigating the matter, trial preparation, and post-trial wrap up. Coordinates and prepares e-discovery, and all legal documents for pleadings, client meetings, depositions, trials, mediations, and settlement conferences. Observes confidentiality and discretion related to client and firm matters. May perform a variety of other special projects as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential job duties must be performed unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation provided by the employer.
The following responsibilities will be required in the Paralegal position:
- Perform all elements of litigation case management, including file management, discovery, and trial activities
- Manage large-scale discovery and e-discovery matters, including document collection and productions as well as creation of witness kits for depositions and trial
- Provide hands-on operational litigation technology support, including but not limited to projects such as organizing and maintaining a document database; importing images into databases; organizing and searching documents and exhibits; exporting data; reformatting and converting data; designing and generating reports; and e-discovery processes
- Interacts professionally and cooperatively with attorneys, other legal administrative assistants, staff, and clients
- Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours
- This is a hybrid position. Working in the Zelle Minneapolis office is generally expected Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays
- At times overtime and/or travel will be required. Based on the needs of the business, there will be times that require being in the office more than three days per week and during travel for trials or for other litigation purposes work will be in person every day and can include evenings and weekends
- Other work as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Three or more years of litigation experience
- Experience with all stages of litigation, including discovery and trial
- Experience preparing for and attending trials/arbitrations/hearings
- Experience coordinating trial/arbitration logistics, including negotiating for workspace, setting-up remote office space, and coordinating with vendors
- Experience developing and maintaining processes to collect, store, and maintain paper and electronic case files
- Experience using Relativity’s database management system and an understanding of electronic document properties and metadata
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Must have exceptional organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality and quantity work product.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using litigation support software for managing files and transcripts preferred. (e.g. Case Notebook, CaseMap, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software products including Word, Excel (including using Excel for reporting, indexing, and logging words), Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
