Career Opportunity

The Finance department is seeking to hire a strong experienced leader as an Assistant Manager, Financial Statements. 

What You Will Do

You will be responsible for ensuring accounting policies and procedures used at the TTC are consistent with the Public Sector Accounting Standards. This also includes providing expertise advice on the accounting or reporting of unique or key transactions or events. In addition, you will be responsible for managing the year end close, preparing the annual audited financial statements, notes and related reports for senior management, TTC Board and Audit Risk Management Committee (ARMC) as well as manage all aspects of the interim and annual external financial audits of the TTC.

 

Ensure TTC’s accounting policies and controls over financial reporting are in place and appropriate and financial procedures are continuously reviewed. Act as the subject matter expert for queries relating to most accounting policies, year-end reporting and related audit matters.

 

In this role you will serve as a resource to projects where business processes are changing including changes to systems, accounting policies and standards that impact financial reporting. You will support in designing and implementing new financial reporting policies, processes or procedures while also monitoring their progress and evaluating the outcomes.

 

As the Assistant Manager, Financial Statements, you will oversee the work of staff and ensure that they acquire the knowledge, skills and technical abilities so that the goals and targets of the team are achieved

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Supervisory experience at a large Canadian public accounting and auditing firm or an auditing government agency or supervisory experience organizing, managing and preparing audited financial statements using Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards (for Municipal Government).
  • Must possess a recognized Canadian accounting designation (i.e. CPA, CA; CPA, CMA; or CPA, CGA).
  • Advanced knowledge of current accounting and auditing principles and practices as described in the CPA Canada Handbook, the Public Sector Accounting Standards, Canadian Auditing Standards and other official pronouncements (e.g. International Financial Reporting Standards or International Public Sector Accounting Standards).
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel and very proficient using other Microsoft software (e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of information systems and financial controls
  • Ability to work well under both extremely tight time and year end pressures, and interact well with all levels of management
  • Experience preparing or reviewing audit schedules and audited financial statements
  • Experience analyzing, reviewing and understanding financial reports, preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations
  • Must have or quickly develop thorough knowledge of SAP General Ledger Module (FICO), related financial processes, systems, reports, electronic bank clearing and MS Analysis Reporting tool
  • Must have sound judgement, excellent analytical, problem-solving, time management, planning, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have demonstrated experience supervising and motivating up to five staff and effectively coordinating efforts of others to accomplish goals and targets.
  • Flexible and comfortable working in an environment of constant change
  • Must have ability to exercise judgement to identify unusual transactions, balances or circumstances for investigation and follow-up.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform work accurately and a timely manner.
  • Good knowledge of banking and settlement methods
