The Endeleo Institute is a 501c(3) organization founded in 2011 by Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) in the Washington Heights community of Chicago, IL. Endeleo is a public charity that fuses three former TUCC entities, Health, Education, and Community Development, into an umbrella organization.

The Market Manager for Endeleo Institute’s Food Market will oversee daily operations, including food inventory, volunteer coordination, and client services, while ensuring compliance with safety and health standards. This role manages data, budget, and community partnerships to maintain a welcoming, efficient, and supportive environment for individuals and families in need.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Operations:
    1. Oversee the daily operations of the food market, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently.
    2. Manage food inventory, including ordering, receiving, sorting, storing and distributing food items.
    3. Develop and implement procedures for food intake, storage, and distribution to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
    4. Monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization of the market.
  • Coordinate Volunteers:
    1. Recruit, train, schedule and supervise volunteers.
    2. Foster a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers.
    3. Ensure volunteers are knowledgeable about food safety practices and pantry procedures.
    4. Manage Client Services:
    5. Ensure the respectful and efficient distribution of food to clients.
    6. Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals and families accessing our services.
    7. Maintain client confidentiality and uphold the dignity of our visitors.
    8. Manage Data:
      1. Maintain accurate records of food inventory and distribution.
      2. Prepare and submit regular reports on the market operations, including inventory, volunteer hours and client services.
    9. Manage Budget and Financial:
      1. Manage the pantry’s budget, including tracking expenses.
    10. Manage Compliance and Safety:
      1. Ensure compliance with GCFD standards, and all local and state regulations related to food safety and distribution.
      2. Implement and enforce safety protocols for volunteers and clients.
      3. Make necessary adjustments to maintain a safe environment.
    11. Manage Community Relations:
      1. Build and maintain relationships with local food pantries, donors, community organizations.
      2. Assist in the market efforts
      3. Additional responsibilities as needed

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social services, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience in program, pantry, or operations management, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers or staff.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, inventory management, and compliance with health regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to treating clients with dignity and respect.
  • Proficiency in data entry, recordkeeping, and basic reporting (knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools required).
  • Ability to manage budgets, track expenses, and prepare reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with donors, community organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Work Schedule:

  • This is a part-time position, requiring 20–25 hours per week.
  • Some evenings and/or weekends availability will  be needed to support pantry operations and community events.
