Help Chronicle Books bring beautifully designed books, gifts, and games to readers and retailers around the world. We are seeking an experienced Sales Manager to grow our export business and deepen partnerships across Asia, Australia & New Zealand, South Africa, the Middle East, India, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Why this role
- Own key international territories and relationships with distributors, reps, and major accounts
- Shape seasonal lists and backlist strategy to drive sell-in and sell-through
- Partner across Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Finance, and Operations to deliver results
- Represent Chronicle Books at global trade fairs like Frankfurt, London, and Bologna
What you will do
- Lead day-to-day account management for distributors and local reps, including pricing, terms, metadata, and sales materials
- Present seasonal frontlist and champion strong backlist performance
- Curate monthly publication lists by market and ensure metadata accuracy
- Build co-created sales and marketing programs with partners, including lead titles with full campaign support
- Forecast with partners, inform print runs, and provide clear territory plans and projections
- Track performance against goals and deliver actionable reports, forecasts, and territory analyses
- Coordinate logistics, discounting, and margin improvements with Finance and Operations
- Manage drop shipments and timelines so partners receive inventory on schedule
- Identify and cultivate new business with distributors, booksellers, and specialty retailers
- Monitor market and competitive trends to guide strategy and acquisitions
Hiring Salary Range: $68,000 – $78,200/yr. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan.

Schedule: Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our San Francisco office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs. Requirements
What you bring
- 5+ years in international sales, account management, or business development, ideally in publishing or related consumer products
- Proven success managing distributor and rep networks across multiple countries
- Strong knowledge of international publishing and retail landscapes
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills
- High attention to detail with strong analytical skills and CRM fluency (Salesforce or similar), plus Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to travel internationally and a proactive, collaborative, entrepreneurial approach
