The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), established in 1911, is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit international organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants. USCRI, working with nearly 200 affiliates, provides legal, social, and health services to refugees, unaccompanied migrating children, trafficking survivors, and other immigrants in all 50 states, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, and Mexico. OVERVIEW

The Grant Writer position supports the growth and operations of the Development department and is responsible for finding, writing, and editing grant proposals, supporting Field Office and USCRI fundraising and program staff for grant reporting, and additional tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will be flexible with strong interpersonal skills, open to taking on heavy writing/editing assignments, and motivated by success. This position reports to USCRI’s director of development. Experience working with refugees and immigrants is a plus, as is experience with legal services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Research legal services-related domestic funding opportunities from various sources, including government (federal, state, and local), foundations and corporations);

· Analyze funding opportunities to assess whether they meet USCRI’s priority goals and draft decision memos (for larger grants) to recommend relevant funding opportunities;

· Write, revise and submit funding proposals in collaboration with key internal partners including Finance, Field Office, and Program staff;

· Track progress of all grant solicitations for USCRI Humanitarian Legal Services program, including those considered or submitted from beginning to final outcome;

· When requested, review and revise protocols and training materials (e.g., workflow, collaborative grant writing protocol) to facilitate continuous improvement in shaping a systematic, sustainable, and collaborative grant writing process;

· Generate periodic reports, including quarterly reports for the Board of Directors, annual work plans and monthly accomplishments; and

· Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university;

· Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in grant writing; project and budget design; and drafting needs assessments and program outcomes;

· Significant knowledge of the entire proposal process; must have demonstrated track record of writing successfully funded grant proposals (federal and non-federal) and successfully identifying public and private funding sources;

· Highly effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness;

· Refrain from taking solicitation rejection personally, receive critique without getting defensive, and exhibits an appropriate sense of humor;

· Excellent writing, editing and computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat;

· Experience working on donor solicitation, fundraising campaigns, reports, or other public communications preferred;

· Self-starter with ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, possess time management skills and meet tight deadlines; and

· Demonstrated commitment to the mission of USCRI and interest in growing in a nonprofit development and fundraising department long-term.
