A Day in the Life as an Energy Auditor:

As an Energy Auditor, you’ll assist with the implementation of a broad range of energy conservation programs by conducting comprehensive energy audits of residential properties, client education, and communication with contractors. The position requires knowledge and use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and energy modeling software. Your day will involve:

  • Following the prescribed training to become a BPI Certified Building Analyst (Technician and Professional), with the long-term goal of obtaining the HEP Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector Certifications.
  • Thoroughly documenting the information gathered at the energy audit in written and digital formats.
  • Creating work order specifications for the contractor(s) chosen to perform the work at the client’s home. Energy Auditor is responsible for choosing contractor to perform work, as well as issuing work orders to the sub-contractors.
  • Scheduling audits and inspections, coordinating with Quality Control Inspector.
  • Ensuring the client’s folder has all the proper paperwork required by the funding sources and CAPBM.

Your role will directly contribute to positive employee and client experience, as well as efficient operations across the organization.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be an Energy Auditor:

To excel in this role, you’ll need: 

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Credential, OSHA 10/30, EPA/HUD RRP, BPI Certifications
  • Experience: Three years of experience with residential construction including masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and energy related fields.
  • Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Characteristics: Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace with an emphasis on client relations.
  • Technical: Successful completion of a background check and driving record. 

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required, as some travel within the community may be necessary.
