Vast is looking for a(n) Environmental Health & Safety Manager, reporting to the Sr. Manager Environmental Health & Safety, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, (exempt) position located in our Long Beach location with some travel to our Hawthorne and Mojave Test Sites.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall management of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs company-wide.
- Responsible for day-to-day EHS operations to include: scheduling tasks via JIRA helpdesk, scheduling coverage for Hazardous operations and ad-hoc projects. Provides direct supervision and manages performance of EHS Engineers and Specialists.
- Applies knowledge of environmental, health & safety regulations to evaluate facility projects, process changes, and assist other teammates in defining compliance requirements for processes and equipment.
- Interfaces with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues; supports regulatory audits/openings, closings and walkthroughs.
- Interfaces with vendors, consultants, and contractors regarding various initiatives and programs.
- Participates in the Investigation of industrial accidents and injuries to determine root cause and preventive measures.
- Manages the Safety Management System to include: Safety Audits to identify workplace hazards/implement engineering controls and best management practices. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to track trends across the company.
- Reviews and interprets new and proposed environmental or safety laws and regulations, and provides guidance to management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of industry experience and 2+ years of management experience.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local environmental, health & safety regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of US EPA, California Air Resources Board, and local California air district regulations, related permit and CEQA guidelines.
- Hands-on involvement with emergency response teams in incidents involving both hazardous and non-hazardous material releases into the air, soil, and water.
- Proven background in developing and implementing health and safety plans and policies.
- Highly detail-oriented and experienced working with cross-functional teams and external customers.
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and Google Workspace tools .
- Demonstrated commitment to hands-on work and meticulous attention to detail, either through academic pursuits or professional experiences.
- Adept at managing multiple tasks, adapting to changing priorities, and successfully completing projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational abilities and excellent communication skills are a fundamental requirement.

Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, between Long Beach/Hawthorne/Mojave campuses
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, including during facility inspections.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators (tight or loose fitting); safety toe shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
- Must be able to climb ladders and access elevated work areas as part of routine safety audits..
Pay Range:
- Environmental Health & Safety Manager: $122,300 - $172,480
