Summary:
This position will drive the research and development of manufactured parts. This includes the overall responsibility of ensuring that processes are delivered to the in-house customer on time and will be capable of routinely delivering the expected level of quality. This position is also responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing processes, programs, fixtures and tooling are operator friendly and that the manufacturing shop has proper engineering coverage to be able to respond and address questions to aid in the continual flow of product through the manufacturing process.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the research and development of manufactured product line ensuring competed processes will be delivered on time, and with a guaranteed quality level.
- Ensure that the manufacturing shop has proper engineering coverage to respond and answer any question they might have.
- Schedule the engineering staff in such a way to provide maximum efficiency
- Track the progress of each engineering discipline ensuring maximum effectiveness.
- Engage in efforts to continuously improve the processes on the shop floor.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement and safety initiatives across the organization.
- Define Root Cause and Corrective Actions on components and designs that result with non-conformances and more importantly ensure that the proper action is implemented.
- Implement all engineering changes from the customer in a timely manner to the Production Manager for proper flow.
- Ensure that the engineering personnel are properly trained, and they continue to stay up to date with the latest techniques for manufacturing.
- Directly supervises the employees in the Engineering Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard work procedures to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality across engineering processes.
- Perform other related duties or responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR related data
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical engineering or other related field
- 8+ years of experience in a Manufacturing environment
- 4+ years of management experience
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and standard business practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering work instructions
- Ability to initiate, record, recommend, verify, and implement corrective actions or solutions to problems relating to product, process or quality system.
- Knowledge of procurement procedures and authority to issue purchase orders for subcontracted services
- Knowledge of ISO 9002 standards and demonstrated ability to lead or support implementation initiatives to ensure compliance and maintain certification
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Ability to travel domestically – 5% max
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 35lbs
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to go up and down stairs frequently
