Position Overview:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep plays a critical role in supporting the clinical team by providing high-quality patient care and assisting with various medical tasks. The CMA is responsible for preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians during procedures, and performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties. This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position requires daily travel to a different office location within Gwinnett County.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Preparation:
- Greet and prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring they are comfortable and informed about the process.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs, medical history, and any relevant information in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Assist patients with mobility issues, ensuring their safety and comfort during their visit.
Clinical Assistance:
- Assist physicians and nurse practitioners during examinations, procedures, and treatments, providing necessary tools and equipment as needed.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws, urine tests, and throat swabs, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by the physician or nurse practitioner, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
Patient Education:
- Provide patients with instructions and education on their care, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up procedures.
- Answer patient questions and address concerns, ensuring they understand their health conditions and treatment options.
- Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials for patients.
Administrative Support:
- Schedule patient appointments, coordinate follow-up visits, and manage patient flow to ensure efficient use of clinical resources.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring all documentation is completed promptly and complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with insurance verification, billing inquiries, and other administrative tasks as needed.
Equipment and Supply Management:
- Ensure that all medical equipment is properly sterilized, maintained, and ready for use.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies, placing orders and stocking examination rooms as needed.
- Assist with the maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment, ensuring it is functioning correctly.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, such as chart audits and procedure reviews, to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
- Report any safety concerns, incidents, or potential issues to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Provide support to other clinical staff as needed, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program.
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a specialty practice.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care protocols.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare technology.
- Current CPR certification.
